The International Hockey Federation (FIH) have announced nine locations which are due to host 2016 to 2017 Hockey World League Round One events.

Peru and Turkey have been rewarded for their work to develop the sport in their nations by being awarded FIH events for the first time in their history, with the Peruvian city of Chiclayo set to stage a joint men’s and women’s competition.

Ghana’s capital Accra, Singapore, Salamanca in Mexico and the Czech Republic’s capital city Prague are also due to host joint events throughout the summer of 2016, with dates to be confirmed.

Another joint event is set to be held in Oceania, with the location set to be confirmed at a later date, while Cambrai in France will host a women’s event and Antalaya in Turkey and Glasgow in Scotland are due to stage additional men’s competitions.

Successful teams at Round One will progress to Round Two.

“These latest host announcements really do highlight the global spread of hockey around the world,” said Kelly Fairweather, chief executive of the FIH.

“Each award is an indication of the growth of the sport taking place in these countries, which is incredibly inspiring.

“All of the hosts are in tune with our Hockey Revolution goals, in particular our aim to develop innovative and exciting entertainment events.

The announcement comes prior to this year's World League Finals, which are due to be held in India and Argentina

“As a result, we’re sure each local organiser will put on a fantastic platform for hockey and in doing so, inspire many more people to take up hockey.”

Six nations have already been confirmed to host Hockey World League Round 2 events for the 2016 to 2017 season, Trinidad & Tobago, Ireland, Bangladesh, Canada, Spain and Malaysia.

The announcement of the locations came as preparations continue for this year’s Season Finals, with the men’s event due to take place in the Indian city of Raipur between November 27 and December 6.

Following the completion of the men’s competition attention will turn to the women’s event which is set to be held in Rosario, Argentina, between December 5 and 13.
