The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) have announced that Lloyd Landkamer, who served as the dressage steward and discipline manager for dressage and Para-equestrian dressage competition at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games, has died at the age of 60 following a battle against cancer.

Landkamer began his career as a show secretary before becoming a show manager and sport horse breeder, and he was promoted to a level three dressage steward in 2012 having been at level two for three years.

He was also crucial to the delivery of several major dressage competitions in the United States having served as the event director at the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Festival of Champions, and USEF Young Horse Championships.

“Lloyd was for many years a successful organiser and manager of international dressage events in the USA,” said Frank Kemperman, chair of the FEI dressage committee.

“His knowledge and enthusiasm was very much appreciated by all riders, trainers, owners, media and fans.

“For me as FEI Dressage Committee Chair and organiser it was always good to travel to an event where Lloyd was running the dressage.

“The Lloyd stamp was a guarantee that the show would run smoothly without any problems, we will miss him.”

His first role as the chief dressage steward was at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington in 2005 and he then became show manager when the schedule was expanded into the 12-week Global Dressage Festival, which included seven international events.

Landkamer received several awards for volunteering throughout his career and he also bred multiple nationally-ranked horses, with several going on to become USDF Horse of the Year award winners.

FEI have offered their condolences to Landkamer’s family, friends and the USEF.
