Thirteen athletes are vying for a place on the United States’ women’s team for the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, with a selection camp set to take place on Tuesday (October 6), including two-time world all-round champion Simone Biles.

The camp is set to take place at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center in Karolyi Ranch, Texas, with seven gymnasts set to be named in the team at the close of two-days in which they will be assessed ahead of the competition.

Kyla Ross, who won gold in the team all-round event at London 2012, has opted to not attend the camp, ruling herself out of a place in the American team for the Championships.

“Kyla and her coaches have let us know that she will not be attending the selection camp,” said Rhonda Faehn, USA Gymnastics’ senior vice-president.

“We respect and support Kyla’s decision.

“Kyla continues to be a tremendous asset to the U.S. Women’s National Team and her dedication, talent and accomplishments have contributed to the USA’s success on the international stage.”

However, Biles and Gabrielle Douglas, who won all-round individual gold at the London 2012 Olympics, are both set to take part in the camp alongside reigning Olympic floor champion Aly Raisman, Alyssa Baumann, Nia Dennis and Brenna Dowell.

The remaining participants across the two days will be Rachel Gowey, Amelia Hundley, Bailie Key, Madison Kocian, Ashton Locklear, Maggie Nichols and MyKayla Skinner.

Following the announcement of the team they will head to Glasgow, Scotland, for the Championships which are due to take place between October 23 and November 1.

In addition to targeting world titles, the American team will also be aiming to secure one of eight berths available at the Rio 2016 Olympics, while nations who are ranked from ninth to 16th at the Championships will advance to the Olympic test event where four more qualification places will be on offer.
