The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) have signed an agreement to confirm that the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Stuttgart.

Bruno Grandi, the FIG President, met with DTB President Rainer Brechtken to pen the contract at the conclusion of the 2015 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, which had taken place in the city between September 7-13.

Stuttgart beat the Dutch city of Rotterdam at a vote during the FIG Council meeting in May and Grandi explained to the governing body that their high-quality facilities and organisation formed a key part in the decision making process to decide the 2019 hosts.

"This is the third time that we are allocating Stuttgart the organisation of the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships,” he said.

“After the success of the 2007 edition, Stuttgart was an obvious choice.

"It is a city with high-quality infrastructures and has proven extremely capable of putting on first-rate sports events, as we've seen demonstrated again this week.

"With the German Federation as our partner, we know that our highlight competitions are in good hands.”

The 2019 edition will be the final World Championships prior to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and with the event set to offer qualification places for the Games, as well as the prospect of winning world titles, it promises to be an excellent spectacle.

Competition is scheduled to be held in Stuttgart from October 4-13 and DTB President Brechtken is looking forward to the challenge of organising the event.

“We wanted to host these Worlds because of their importance to gymnastics, the athletes and our federation," he said.

"We have already successfully hosted the World Championships in 2007, the year before an Olympic Games, which had a durable impact."

The 2015 edition of the Championships are due to be held in Glasgow from October 23-November 1, while the Canadian city Montreal and Qatar’s capital Doha are due to host the 2017 and 2018 events.
