Liam Moggan, vice-president of Paralympics Ireland, has been confirmed by International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics as the latest keynote speaker for their first-ever coaching conference in Colorado Springs.

The conference, due to take place on December 12 to 13, will see four keynote speakers present on the theme “Destination Rio 2016 - preparing for prime performance.

Moggan will also speak on the subject of psychology and its effects and importance to Para-athletes.

In addition to his role at Paralympic Ireland, Moggan is coach education developer at Coaching Ireland and has been a performance manager which has seen him assist teams and individuals in various sports, helping them develop programmes at Olympic and Paralympic level.

“Liam is a highly regarded member of the Para-athletics world, and I cannot express how excited I am to have him speak at our first coaching conference,” said Ryan Montgomery, head of IPC Athletics.

“Liam has been working in high performance all his life, and I am confident our attendees will gain a lot from the wealth of information, knowledge and experience Liam will share.

“He is someone who approaches his work in a holistic manner and is especially a major advocate in education as tool for athletes’ success.”

Moggan has outlined four key messages which he will aim to express in his presentation, including the idea that when athletes compete in the belief that there are more important things than results, good results follow and that athletes meet a challenge best when it is one they have set themselves.

Additionally, he will also explore the notion that the easiest hard work is physical, while discussing the idea that all athletes can learn and all athletes can improve, but not on the same day and not in the same way.

“I am looking forward immensely to attending the Para-athletics Coaching Conference and to have to opportunity to present,” Moggan said.

“I look forward to sharing in a conference setting some practical tools which I have applied with players and athletes overtime.”

Chantal Petitclerc, a winner of 14 Paralympic gold medals, is set to join Moggan as a keynote speaker at the event and will speak about athlete perspectives in advances in training and coaching.

Petitclerc, awarded the IPC International Women's Day Recognition Award, will be Canada's Chef de Mission at Rio 2016.

Also scheduled to talk at the conference are the head coach of The Netherlands’ Para-athletics team Guido Bonsen, Lawrence Judge, the national chairman of the USA Track and Field for coaches education,  and Brazil’s Ciro Winckler, a professor of physical education at the Federal University of Sao Paulo.

Targeted at high performance directors, national coaches, classifiers and team support staff, the conference will also include panel discussions and workshops.
