Jingjing Zhang secured China’s second gold of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Rifle and Pistol World Cup Finals in Munich, Germany, after triumphing in the women’s 25 metres pistol final.

The reigning world champion had earned World Cup glory in the city in May and she was able to replicate that form during the first stage of the competition as after hitting the targets of 17 occasions she sealed one of the two places in the final.

Mongolia’s Gundegmaa Otryad had also found the target 17 times during the initial phase to reach the gold medal match, but the winner of this year’s Fort Benning and Changwon World Cups was unable to maintain that level of performance against Zhang.

The Chinese shooter proved to be dominant in the battle for gold as she secured a 7-3 victory to claim the title at the World Cup Finals for the second time, having won the 2013 event.

An all-Chinese bronze medal match between Lijia Cao and Yuernei Lin proved to be a one sided affair, as Cao sealed an 8-0 win to earn a place on the podium.

France’s Jean Quiquampoux held his nerve in the closing stage of the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event to win gold at the Finals for the first time in his career.

The world junior champion began the competition in impressive style as he successfully hit all 15 targets during the first stage of the final to hold a lead over the field ahead of the elimination phase.

He maintained his advantage until the penultimate round of the event where four missed shots out of five saw him fall two shots behind Leonid Ekimov, meaning he was reliant on the Russian making mistakes in the final round to stand a chance of winning gold.

With the gold within touching distance Ekimov also faltered by missing three targets and Quiquampoux seized his opportunity with an improved round helping him to emerge as a 32-31 victor.

South Korea’s Jun Hong Kim would join the two Europeans on the podium having been eliminated in the third, on a score of 27.
