Defending champions Spain made it two wins out of two at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football European Championships with a 2-0 success against Greece at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, England.

Following on from yesterday’s hard-fought 1-0 victory against Belgium in their Group B opener, Spain took the lead in the eighth minute as Youssef El Haddaoui fired home past Greece goalkeeper Georgios Ampatzis.

Greece managed to keep themselves within touching distance going into the second-half but Spain’s triumph was sealed when Adolfo Acosta’s strike found the back of the net.

In the other Group B match, France bounced back from their shock 1-0 defeat against Russia yesterday to beat Belgium by the same scoreline.

Captain David Labarre scored the decisive goal for France on the stroke of half-time, thumping a penalty straight down the middle after team-mate Yvan Wouandji had been brought down by Alexandre Wespes.

Meanwhile in Group A, hosts England followed up their 7-0 win against Poland by overcoming Italy 4-0.

An own goal from Fabrizio D’Alessandro set England on their way before a second-half brace from man-of-the-match Robin Williams, coupled with a superb solo goal from Roy Turnham, ensured all three points for the home nation.

Poland’s misery continued in their clash with Turkey, losing 6-0 to take their goal difference to minus 13 after two matches.

Turkey, who played out a goalless draw with Germany in their first match, had to wait until the second-half to make the breakthrough with Emrah Ocal scoring four minutes after the restart.

Poland called a time out to regroup but it did not stop Turkey in their tracks as Ocal added a further two goals to bring up his hat-trick either side of the first of three goals for Kahraman Kurbetoglu.

Tomorrow’s action in Group A is due to see Italy take on Turkey before Germany face Poland.

In Group B, Greece meet France following Russia’s encounter with Belgium.
