The first edition of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) President’s Cup will be hosted by German city Bonn next year, it has been announced.

The event, scheduled to take place from April 1 to 3, will give all medallists direct access to the 2016 European Taekwondo Union (ETU) Championships in Montreux, Switzerland.

ETU President Sakis Pragalos recently met with Antonio Barbarino, President of the Nordrhein Westfälische Taekwondo Union (NWTU) and Gerd Kohlhofer, President of the Bayerische Taekwondo Union and vice-president of the Deutsche Taekwondo Union, for what was described as "amicable and fruitful discussions" regarding the event.

Approximately 2,000 athletes are expected to compete in the G2 event, the second lowest in the WTF’s ranking system.

The grade of each competition determines the number of ranking points one can earn through their performances with winners of G20 events earning 200 points compared to 10 for winners of G1 contests.

The 2016 ETU Championships, which are due to be held from May 19 to 22, will be the fifth edition of the event.

This year’s event was held in the Moldovan capital of Chișinău.
