Pacek, winner of a silver medal at the Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix earlier this month, overcame a familiar foe to step up to the top of podium in Tyumen.

He beat Latvia's Jevgenijs Borodavko, had defeated him on four of their six meetings in IJF competition.

Pacek, 28, was able to get the better of his opponent by claiming a victory by yuko.

It is a result which gives Pacek confidence for next month's IJF World Championships in Astana.

“This is a real honour for me and is not something that I take lightly," he said.

"I am pleased with where I am at the moment and physically I feel good.

"I will now step up my preparations for the World Championships.”

Pacek was joined on the podium by Belgium's Toma Nikiforov, winner of his bronze medal bout with Algeria's Lyes Bouyacoub through an ippon, while Germany's Karl-Richard Frey had a walkover so claimed bronze without having to fight again.

There was home success for the Russian fans to cheer in the men's under 81kg division as Ivan Vorobev was victorious in the gold medal match due to Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix champion Antoine Valois-Fortier of Canada being penalised with a shido in an otherwise scoreless encounter.

Vorobev may have won the gold medal but there disappointment for his team-mates Aslan Appinagov and Sirazhudin Magomedov after they were beaten in the bronze medal matches by Germany's Alexander Wieczerzak and Sven Maresch.

Japan's Mashu Baker secured back-to-back Grand Slam wins as the 20-year-old backed up his triumph in Ulaanbaatar with an impressive display against Russia's Magomed Magomedov by winning with a waza-ari in the men's under 90kg division.

There were two further home athletes on the podium as Khusen Khalmuraev and Kazbek Zankishiev won their bronze medal bouts.

There was further success for Japanese judokas as Hisayoshi Harasawa triumphed in the men's over 100kg event with a rapid victory in the final over Russia's Aslan Kambiev by achieving an ippon in the opening 90 seconds of their gold medal bout.

Poland's Maciej Sarnacki, who was beaten by Harasawa in the semi-final, claimed the first bronze medal with a ippon of Jean-Sebastien Bonvoisin of France, while a waza-ari was enough for Russia's Soslan Bostanov to beat Germany's Andre Breitbarth to the other minor medal.

Japan earned a third gold medal of the day as Haruka Tachimoto marked her first appearance in an international competition this year with a victory via ippon over Israel's Linda Bolder, while Szaundra Diedrich of Germany and Canada's Kelita Zupancic completed the podium.

However The Netherlands' Guusje Steenhuis prevailed over Japan's Ruika Sato in the under 78kg final having ended the contest with one less shido penalty, but her compatriot Marhinde Verkerk was defeated by Japan's Shori Hamada with an ippon to secure the first bronze.

Germany's Luise Malzahn defeated Britain's Natalie Powell in less than 30 seconds to earn a spot on the podium, with an ippon giving her victory.

In the final women's class, the over 78kg division, China's Sisi Ma won gold with a yuko against Japan's Nami Inamori, while the bronze medals were awarded to her compatriot Song Yu and Germany's Jasmin Kuelbds.
