Both matches on the second day of the Gold Cup at LA Galaxy's Stubhub Centre ended in draws today.

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz and Costa Rica played an exciting 2-2 draw in their opening Group B match of the tournament organised by the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.

Reading's Garath McCleary had given the Jamaicans the lead in the 13th minute, but the Central Americans got back on level terms in the 33rd thanks to a Roy Miller goal.

Four minutes later, Costa Rica took the lead as goalkeeper Dwayne Miller was slow in reacting to a long ball launched from deep inside the Costa Rican half, allowing David Ramirez to lob him.

Jamaica fought back after the resumption when Jobi McAnuff took things into his own hands and dribbled inside the 18-yard box to poke home in the 48th minute.

The other match in the Group, between El Salvador and Canada, also played at the Stubhub Centre, was not quite as entertaining, ending goalless.

It means Canada have now won just one of their last nine Gold Cup matches.

It could have been different, though, if  Orlando City striker Cyle Larin had not missed the chance of the match in the 36th minute.

He broke well clear of the El Salvador defence, rounded goalkeeper Derby Carrillo - and with an empty net beckoning, somehow contrived to miss.

The first-half was highlighted by Larin's shocking miss, but it was El Salvador that enjoyed the better of the chances, with early substitute Herrera in the thick of the action.

After Nelson Bonilla was twice stretchered from the pitch - eventually for good in the 10th minute - after drawing a stray boot to the head, Herrera came on as his replacement, and he proved to be the main threat to Canada's defence.

Canada had not conceded in four matches coming into its tournament opener, although Herrera first threatened to break that streak when he fired a powerful shot from the left side of the area in the 25th minute - only to be denied by the knees of goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos.

The second-half was pretty forgettable as the drama of the opening match between Jamaica and Costa Rica faded in the memory.

Group C is due to kick-off tomorrow at Soldier Field in Chicago when Trinidad and Tobago take on Guatemala and Mexico meet Cuba.
