Jeffery A. Jones has been appointed as director of sport by the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) in the United States, it was announced today.

Jones, who will report to Dan Humphreys, the NWBA's director of sport and high performance, was most recently director of sports and community programmess for BlazeSports America.

At BlazeSports America, an organisation that provides sport and physical activity opportunities for youth and adults with physical disabilities, he was responsible for their veterans programme, as well as the junior basketball team.

Under Jones, the Georgia Blazers transitioned to the Atlanta Junior Wheelchair Hawks in 2012 and their prep team won this year's National Championship for a fourth consecutive time.

"I am very excited to be joining the NWBA team," said Jones.  

"I look forward to helping expand our services to meet the needs of our growing membership and to help increase the number of wheelchair basketball programmes across the country."

Prior to working for BlazeSports, Jones was the director of Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's Center for Health and Fitness and the Wirtz Sports Program, one the largest disability sports and recreation schemes in America.

The programme offered 18 sports and recreation activities, including three wheelchair basketball teams.

Jones has been a staff member of two World Championship teams and two Paralympic teams.

His past coaching experience includes sled hockey, quad rugby, wheelchair soccer, track and field, boccia and wheelchair basketball. 

"Jeff's vast experience serving our community makes him a perfect addition for this newly created position," said Humphreys.

"His presence will help enhance our efforts to better serve and grow the veteran segment of our membership."
