Ukraine will face Russia in the final of the Cerebral Palsy Football World Championships after each won their respective semi-finals in contrasting fashion at St George's Park in Burton upon Trent in England.

Gold medal favourites Russia were simply too strong in sweeping past The Netherlands, attacking almost from the first whistle and hitting the post with just two minutes gone.

Eduard Ramonov soon put them ahead, skipping several challenges before powering into the penalty box and driving home off the underside of the bar with a sublime individual effort, before an unfortunate own goal by Joey Mense doubled the Russian advantage.

Dmitrii Pestretsov, who had missed several chances in the first half, scored a third soon after the break, before Viacheslav Larionov, Ivan Potekhin and Alexei Borkin added three more for a 6-0 victory.

Ukraine were made to work far harder against Brazil in the first of the last four contests, edging home for a 2-1 victory in a clash which could have gone either way.

Brazil were on top early on but Ukraine took the lead against the run of play when Vitality Trushev set up captain Volodymyr Antoniuk, who slotted the ball home for a 12th goal of the tournament.

The South Americans continued their attacking intent, however, and restored parity before the break through one of the goals of the tournament so far from star man Wanderson.

After beating two players, he struck the ball magnificently straight into the top corner from 30 yards out.

From here it was anyone's game, but as both teams tired and space appeared, it was Ukraine who pounced with Artem Krasylnykov slotting home from inside the six yard box.

The final on Sunday (June 28) will be a repeat of the London 2012 Paralympic gold medal match, where Russia edged out their opponents 1-0.

It will be preceded by classification matches tomorrow for positions five to 14, with the most intriguing-looking clash being the dual for fifth place between Ireland and hosts England.
