Six nations shared the medals at the Para-canoe World Cup in Duisburg, with paddlers from Austria, Canada, Germany, Britain, France and Brazil all gaining a top spot on the podium.

In the event the Paralympic-class races took place alongside competition in the Olympic categories, a good opportunity for the discipline to gain exposure ahead of its debut on the Paralympic programme at next year's Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Six events were held, with Canada's Christine Gauthier starting off proceedings with a comfortable victory in the women's KL2 women's 200 metres, finishing over six seconds clear of Argentinean Brenda Sardon in 1min 0.357sec.

Markus Mendy Swoboda of Austria scooped the corresponding men's KL2 event, defeating 45-year-old Puerto Rican stalwart Eddie Montanez in a time of 46.904sec, before Cindy Moreau of France won the KL3 event in 54.766.

Veronica Yoko Plebani of Italy was a distant second, as Silvia Elvira of Spain took bronze.

In the final three events, meanwhile, Britain's Charlotte Wilkinson won the women's KL2 200m in 57.787, finishing more than two seconds clear of Germany's Edina Muller, while Alana Nichols of United States took bronze.

Germany's Tom Kierey won the men's KL3 event, finishing ahead of Russia's Artem Voronkov of Russia and Britain's Timothy Lodge in second and third respectively.

In what could be a good omen for Rio 2016, Brazil's Fernando Fernandes de Padua won the concluding KL1 arms-only men's event ahead of Italy's Salvadore Ravalli and Argentina's Lucas Nicolás Diaz.
