Kosovo are guaranteed their first-ever medal at an International Boxing Association (AIBA) competition after lightweight Donjeta Sadiku beat Tajikistan’s Idimokh Kholova at the Women's Junior and Youth World Boxing Championships at the Xinzhuang Stadium in Taipei today.

The 16-year-old started in dominant fashion and grew in confidence as the bout went on, eventually taking what proved to be an historic victory for her nation.

It was also another excellent day of action for the American team as Ariel Arismendez claimed an enthralling win against Ireland’s Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships gold medallist Ciara Ginty in the youth light welterweight division.

Arismendez’s triumph saw her book a place in the last four of the competition, where she will face Russia's Ekaterina Nemtseva, which ensured she will leave the tournament with a minimum of bronze.

Team-mate Guadalupe Gutierrez, competing in her first bout of the event, sealed a spot in the semi-finals of the junior lightweight division thanks to a comprehensive victory over Nisha of India.

“In my opinion I had a good fight today in Taipei,” she said.

“I did not get sloppy or wild, and I stayed compact throughout the whole bout.

“My winning tactic was to try and stop my opponent as soon as I could, and I think it was successful.”
