Tickets for October’s World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Grand Prix in Manchester have gone on sale, it has been announced.

The event, due to take place from October 16 to 18, is set to feature a host of top names, including recently crowned world champion Briton Bianca Walkden and London 2012 Olympic Games gold medallist Jade Jones.

It will be the third time the competition has been staged in Manchester, and there are a number of different type of tickets available.

Spectators eager to secure their seat at the Grand Prix can choose to attend day or evening sessions, while fans can also buy discounted all-day, weekend or competition tickets spanning the whole three days of action.

Prices for individual tickets start at just £10 ($15.50/€14) for adults, with day seats beginning at £20 ($31/€28), and those under the age of 16 will benefit from a half price offer.

Around 250 athletes from across the world are due to compete across eight different weight categories, and the event will be a key stepping stone to next year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as vital ranking points will be available.

“Having been runner-up at the previous two Manchester Grand Prix, I'm going to be going all out to get onto the top of the podium and gain further valuable ranking points for Rio 2016 qualification,” Jones said.

“The Grand Prix provides the perfect opportunity to perform against the world's best, in front of a home crowd who really spur us on.”

The WTF Taekwondo Grand Prix is one on a long list of sporting events due to be held in Great Britain in the build-up to Rio 2016, and British Taekwondo performance director Gary Hall is calling on the public to snap up tickets and get behind the athletes.

“Home support can really make a difference and each year in Manchester we have experienced bigger and noisier crowds,” he said.

“So if you want to get up close and personal to elite level taekwondo, to experience the speed, drama and excitement of an Olympic sport, then I would urge you to purchase tickets.”

“This is a really important year for the British team, kick-started by fantastic success at the World Championships which have just finished in Russia.

“By the time of the Manchester Grand Prix we will know what we need to do to secure automatic qualification spots for Rio.”
