The portal, launched by “Discover Qatar”, the destination management division of Qatar Airways Holidays, offers a range of packages including a selection of hotels, excursions and recreational activities that can be enjoyed alongside the event.

This will help entice people to attend what is set to be the highest profile event in the sport since the 2013 World Championships in Lyon, it is hoped.

Around 1,300 athletes from 90 countries are expected to compete in Doha’s Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium between October 22 and 30 in what will also mark the last major international Para-athletics event before the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

A total of 89 major sporting events have been scheduled for Qatar this year, with the athletics extravaganza topping the bill alongside the International Boxing Association World Championships, due to take place in Doha earlier in October.

The World Handball Championships also took place there in January, while Friday (May 15) saw the opening leg of the International Association of Athletics Federations Diamond Leg circuit.

Tennis, swimming and volleyball are other sports to have major events scheduled in the Gulf nation later this year.
