Pyeongchang 2018 has today unveiled “Passion. Connected.” as its slogan for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games during 1,000-days-to-go celebration at Seoul’s Olympic Park.

According to the Organising Committee (POCOG), “Passion.” symbolises Pyeongchang 2018 as the stage of a global festival where people will exchange inspirations, share the Koreans’ warm unique hospitality, and experience the excitement of the Olympic spirit.

“Connected.” is said to signify the openness of Pyeongchang where all generations can participate anytime and anywhere through Korea’s cutting-edge technology and cultural convergence, while showcasing the meaning of a new beginning and opening new horizons for winter sports in Asia to spread further throughout the world.

Combined together, it is claimed “Passion. Connected.” expresses Pyeongchang’s vision to expand the enthusiasm for and participation in winter sports to a wider audience throughout Asia, opening new horizons for winter sports and the Winter Games.

“The new slogan embodies POCOG’s vision to expand winter sports participation to a truly global audience and encourages people to create and share their once in a lifetime experiences at Pyeongchang,” said Pyeongchang 2018 President Cho Yang-ho.

“By hosting the 2018 Games we want to make a lasting effect on the youth and inspire the generations to come.”

The two capital letters “P” and “C” are Pyeongchang’s initials and can be utilised in variations to promote the city’s key messages.

Examples include “People. Connected.” - engaging people from around the world - as well as “Possibility. Connected.” - offering winter sports opportunities to more regions - and “Peace. Connected.” - spreading peace through sports.

POCOG worked with a global brand consultancy firm to create the slogan, gathering ideas from copywriters before deliberating the shortlisted slogans with a board of advisors, comprised of local brand specialists.

The Pyeongchang 2018 celebration of 1,000-days-to-go, dubbed "Happy Pyeongchang, Promise for 1,000 days" is set to continue tomorrow, offering various activities to the public including winter sports related exhibitions, lucky draws and promotional booths featuring the Olympic Partners.

In parallel with the POCOG event, host and venue cities also celebrated 1,000 days-to-go.

Gangwon Province operated a special train from Seoul to Chuncheon, the Province’s capital, upon which winter sports stars gave time to share their stories with younger athletes and sports fans.

Meanwhile, the cities of Chuncheon, Pyeongchang, Gangneung and Jeongseon all hosted celebrations for local residents in the evening.

“Celebrating just 1,000 days-to-go to the Games today, we’ve seen the connected passion of our citizens and are sure that it will help us to successfully stage Korea’s first Winter Games,” added Cho.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders and staff for their support so far, and look forward even more in the remaining 1,000 days.”
