Canada and United States will face off in a clash of the North American titans in the final of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A Pool in Buffalo on Sunday (May 3) after each won their respective semi finals.

The Paralympic gold medal winning US squad were on superb form in dispatching Norway 6-0, never losing the initiative after teenage talents Brody Roybal and Declan Farmer combined to score an opener eight minutes into the first period.

Captain Josh Sweeney doubled the advantage two minutes later before further strikes from Paul Schaus and Josh Misiewicz and two from home town hero Adam Page added a flourish to the scoreboard.

The Canadians, meanwhile, held their nerve to edge Paralympic silver medallists Russia 3-2 to avenge their loss at February's World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Leduc.

It was not easy for the defending world champions, however, with Ilia Volkov, the most valuable player at the Russian national championships this season, becoming the tournament's first player to score against Canada when giving his side the lead in the first period.

But the Canadians fought back, with Billy Bridges equalising midway through the second period, before grabbing a second 45 seconds before the interval.

Two-time world champion defenceman Adam Dixon then increased the lead and, while Vasilii Varlakov pulled one back, 10 saves from Corbin Watson propelled his side towards victory.

The side will go into the final as underdogs despite having also won global crowns in 2000 and 2008 in addition to their 2013 triumph, where the now retired Graeme Murray scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over the US.

In comparison, the Americans - World Championship winners in 2009 and 2012 - have since been on a rich vein of form, winning the Sochi 2014 Paralympic title and this year's World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Leduc, beating Canada en route to each win.

The two sides will take to the ice at 2:30pm local time on Sunday, with the clash to follow the bronze medal encounter between Russia and Norway.
