The United States men’s freestyle wrestlers dominated the final day of the Pan American Wrestling Championships as they claimed the team title by winning six of the eight available gold medals in Santiago.

The rampant American outfit enjoyed a superb day that included four straight golds as they posted a points tally of 78, 20 more than overall silver medallists Canada could muster, while Cuba took third with 54 points.

Cuba claimed the first title of the day as Alfredo Cisneros earned a scrappy win over American Zach Saunders in the 57 kilograms category, but it proved to be a rare moment of disappointment for the US.

In the 61kg event, Andrew Hochstrasser began the period of American dominance, comfortably beating Columbia’s Wilmar Hernandez 10-0, before Jason Chamberlain triumphed in the 65kg weight class with a workmanlike victory against Peru's Abel Herrera.

By this point, the Americans were in full swing and they sealed their third consecutive gold of the day when Dustin Schlatter won the 70kg title.

Shortly after teammate Tyler Caldwell proved too strong for Canada’s Jevon Balfour in the 74kg division.

Dustin Kilgore was the star 97kg perfomer and he clinched America’s fifth gold of the afternoon by ousting Cuba’s Abraham Conyedo 6-2 in the final.

The success for Kilgore’s side did not end there though as Zach Rey claimed the 125kg honours with a classy performance in his final against Andres Ramos of Cuba.

Cuban Yurieski Torreblanca did manage to bring a brief halt to the American monopoly of the titles as he got the better of Chris Perry of the US to take gold in the 86kg category.

The next United World Wrestling (UWW) Continental Championships on the calendar is the Asian Senior Championships, due to take place from May 6 until 10 in Doha.
