The 30-strong Australian Dolphins Swim Team for the 2015 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Glasgow has been announced.

It comes on the back of some extremely impressive performances at the 2015 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships, which took place at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre earlier this month.

Paralympians Ellie Cole, Blake Cochrane, Jacqui Freney and Brenden Hall headline the team to compete in Glasgow from July 13 to 19, with them all recording times in their respective events that would have seen them ranked number one in the world for 2014.

Having been told she may never be able to swim competitively again, Cole made a successful return to the pool, taking gold in the women’s 100 metres backstroke and 50m freestyle.

The 23-year-old, who also clocked the world number one ranked time for her classification, underwent a double shoulder reconstruction in 2013, which she described as one of the "hardest things I've had to face in my swimming career so far”.

Despite initially deciding her career was complete after winning four gold medals at London 2012, Cole is now on course to represent her country at a World Championships for the third time, having also competed in Durban nine years ago and Eindhoven four years later.

Cochrane, who also competed at the World Championships in Montreal two years ago, as well as in Durban and Eindhoven, produced the swim of the meet, when he set a world record for his classification in the men’s multi-class 100m breaststroke.

Joining Cochrane and Cole in Scotland will be eight-time Paralympic gold medallist Jacqui Freney, who impressed in the 400m freestyle following a break in 2014, and the extremely versatile Hall.

The 21-year-old, who swims anything from the 50m freestyle to the 10 kilometres open water events, collected the men’s 400m freestyle crown at the Australian Championships after clocking a superb time of 4min 10.90sec

“We have got a very strong team,” said Paralympic performance manager Adam Pine, following the conclusion of the Australian Swimming Championships.

“I’m very confident with the way we have picked our team.

“The requirements we set have brought out some great performances here this week.

“We know that we are taking athletes to Glasgow who are going to be in the finals and vying for medals.”

The World Championships are set to attract around 650 swimmers from 50 countries, in what is the biggest international competition ahead of Rio 2016.
