Swedish skip Niklas Edin guided his nation to a play-off place at the Ford World Men's Curling Championship ©WCFSweden secured their place in the Ford World Men's Curling Championship Page 3v4 play-off after beating China at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Canada.

Skip Niklas Edin cleared a Chinese stone out of the house to blank the tenth end and secure a 7-6 win.

The Swedes, who went on to beat Scotland 11-6 in the evening session, will now face either Finland or the United States, who are due to meet in a sudden death tie-breaker tomorrow.

"We're in the Play-offs," said Edin.

"It didn't look it after we were won two, lost three, but we picked it up."

Despite losing to Canada 6-5 in the morning session, Finland kept their medal hopes alive with a 7-5 victory against Italy this evening.

Skip Aku Kauste was Finland's star man giving himself a good platform in the second end with a hit that produced three points for a 3-1 lead, before scoring another three points in the eighth end with a draw-shot to establish a 6-5 lead.

"I'm really proud of my team tonight," said Kauste.

"We've been fighting game after game, we've been in some really tough games, but I'm glad we've got now got a chance in a tie-breaker.

"I think it will be a tough game against the USA.

"It was tight in the first game [in the round robin], although we were leading most of the way.

"They are playing really well so we will have to be prepared."

Having beaten the Czech Republic 6-2 in the morning session, the US went into their afternoon encounter against Russia seeking medal progress.

Skip John Shuster tapped out a Russian stone to score two points for a 5-2 lead, and although the game ultimately went to an extra end, the US emerged as 6-5 victors.

Elsewhere in the morning session, China beat Scotland 10-3, while defending champions Norway overcame Japan 10-8.

Norway followed this up with a 6-4 win against Switzerland to finish joint top in the round robin standings with hosts Canada, who beat Italy 7-6 in the afternoon session.

Japan claimed a 9-6 victory against Switzerland in the evening session, while the Czech Republic came out 7-6 winners against Russia.

Norway are scheduled to meet Canada in the Page 1v2 play-off tomorrow evening, after Finland's tie-breaker against the US.
