Ishikawa claimed the first set of his hardcourt 6-2 match against American Greg Hasterok, but was forced to bounce back in the third after Hasterok levelled the tie by winning the second 6-1.

But Ishikawa secured victory by winning a closely fought third set 6-4, to set up the quarter-final match against the third seed Lapthorne after the Briton won his match in style, breezing past America's Steven Baxter 6-0, 6-0.

Recently crowned Pensacola Open champion Dylan Alcott advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own and will meet American Nick Taylor in the last eight.

The quad singles quarter-final line up is completed by Israel's Itay Erenlib, who is set to face top seed David Wagner of the United States, while Brazil's Ymanitu Silva is due to face Britain's Jamie Burdekin.

With Britain's top seed Gordon Reid receiving a bye in the first round of the men's wheelchair singles, fifth seed Stefan Olsson of Sweden took centre stage, as he was one of three players to advance without dropping a game.

But America's Jon Rydberg came through a tougher test as he beat Belgium's Mike Denayer to set up a match with eighth seed Adam Kellerman of Australia.

Former world number one Michael Jeremiasz of France will face Brazil's Carlos Santos, after seeing off the challenge of seventh seed Marc McCarroll of Britain.

There was British success in the women's first round as Louise Hunt set up a second round match with top seed Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany after dropping only one game on her way to victory over Willemien Smits of The Netherlands.

Americans Elizabeth Williams, Kaitlyn Verfuerth, Emmy Kasier and Dana Mathewson delighted the home crowd by advancing through to the second round, while Russia's Polina Shakirova and Chile's Macarena Cabrillana also recorded first round wins.

Competition in Louisiana is due to continue tomorrow, with the Series 1 event set to conclude on Sunday (March 29).
