Oleksandra Kononova has closed her IPC Nordic Skiing World Cup season by claiming the overall middle distance biathlon title ©Getty ImagesWorld champion Oleksandra Kononova has closed her International Paralympic Committee Nordic Skiing World Cup season with the overall middle distance biathlon title after winning today's 12.5 kilometres race in Surnadal, Norway.

The Ukrainian star clocked a time of 39min 46.2sec to finish on 825 World Cup points, 165 points of her nearest rival and compatriot Liudmyla Liashenko, third in the final race of the season on 43:16.6.

Canada's Brittany Hudak was second in 41:36.6 to finish the year in 10th place overall.

The final women's sitting race of the season saw Germany's Anja Wicker securing victory with a time of 48.46.5, which was enough for her to overtake Marta Zaynullina of Russia for the overall end of season title.

Wicker dropped just two shots to finish the race ahead of Russia's Natalia Kocherova, who clocked 49:16.3, and Lidziya Hrafeyeva of Belarus who completed the podium with a time of 50:17.1.

A sixth place finish in the men's 15km sitting event was enough for Russia's Alexey Bychenok to claim the overall World Cup title in the discipline, 36 points ahead of team mate Aleksandr Davidovich.

The race itself was won by overall third place finisher Martin Fleig of Germany in 49.32.1, with Davidovich in second place on 49:46.5 and Norway's Trygve Steinar Larsen third with 52:07.5.

Elsewhere in the men's standing race, Ukrainian Ihor Reptyukh finished in 42:17.6 to secure the win just one second ahead of Norway's Nils Erik Ulset.

Finishing third with a time of 43:15.7 was enough for Russian Vladislav Lekomtcev to take the overall end-of-season title.

Victory in the men's visually impaired went to Russia's Stanislav Chokhlaev and guide Evgenii Fatkhullin with clean shooting and a time of 40:17.4, ahead of compatriot Nikolay Polukhin, guided by Andrey Tokarev, who finished in 41:13.3 to take the overall honour by just 14 points.

Third place went to Ukraine's Anatolii Kovalevskyi and guide Oleksandr Mukshyn with their time of 42:40.2.

The women's equivalent race was won by Ukraine's Olga Prylutska and guide Borys Babar in a time of 40:30.6, while Russia's Elena Remizova, guided by Maksim Pirogov, and Germany's Vivian Hösch, guided by Florian Schillinger, finished in second and third place on 41:00.1 and 41:10.5 respectively.

But the overall title went to Russian fifth place finisher Iuliia Budaleeva, who adds this honour to the overall women's middle distance visually impaired cross-country title she claimed yesterday.
