Having been the two top teams in the round robin phase of the tournament Canada and Switzerland met in the top page play-off, with the winner advancing directly to the gold medal match.

Swiss skip Alina Paetz got her team off to a perfect start taking out a Canadian stone to take two points in the opening end of the contest.

The match unsurprisingly proved to be a tight affair, with Switzerland moving into a 3-2 lead by the halfway mark.

But, with the contest approaching the final ends, Canada levelled the score at 4-4 after stealing a point.

Switzerland immediately regained the advantage in the ninth end with Paetz removed a Canadian stone to score two points for a 6-4 lead, holding on to seal a place in the final after a scoreless final end.

"I really don't know what to say, it's crazy," Paetz said.

"It was always a dream to be there [in the final] and now we're there."

They will face a rematch against the Canadian team, after they bounced back from the play-off defeat to take advantage of their second chance to qualify for the final, as they beat Russia in the semi-final.

Skip Jennifer Jones put the Olympic champions 2-0 up in the first end and her team did not look back as they moved into a 5-1 lead by the halfway stage.

Despite Russian skip Anna Sidorova reducing the arrears in the sixth end, the Canadian team maintained their advantage to seal a 7-4 win.

They will now attempt to claim a first victory over Switzerland at the tournament in tomorrow's (March 22) gold medal match, having lost in the round robin and top page play-offs, while Russia's defeat means that they will face Scotland in the bronze medal match.
