Arslanbek Makhmudov led the way for the Azerbaijan Baku Fires as they took a strong victory over their Italian opponents ©WSBAzerbaijan Baku Fires continued their superb World Series of Boxing form, beating the Italia Thunder 4-1 away in Milan secure a fourth win in their last five matches.


The win puts the Azerbaijani team in third place in Group B, overhauling their Italian opponents who now lie down in fourth place. 

Flyweight Murad Rabadanov got Baku off to the best possible start on his first performance of the season, before number one lightweight Albert Selimov secured a fourth consecutive win over Italian debutant Sedik Boufrakech.

Welterweight Parviz Baghirov then secured victory by outpointing another Italian first-timer Alfonso Di Russo.

Valentino Manfredonia secured a consolation point with a high quality win over Soltan Migitinov, before Arslanbek Makhmudov lived up to his reputation as the best super heavyweight in the WSB as he ended Guido Vianello's unbeaten record in the final fight.

Elsewhere in Group B, Astana Arlans maintained their unbeaten record, but only just, defeating Caciques Venezuela 3-2 in Caracas, while the USA Knockouts ran out comfortable 5-0 winners over the Argentine Condors in Miami.

Rafaco Husars Poland edged Puerto Rico Hurricanes 3-2 in Warsaw to take only their second win of the season.

In Group A, meanwhile, the Russian Boxing Team beat Algeria Desert Condors 4-1 in Algiers to keep up their challenge on leaders Cuba Domodores, who also won 4-1, over Morocco Atlas Lions in Casablanca. 

Mexico Guerreros eased past third placed Ukraine Otamans 5-0 while China Dragons ran out 4-1 winners over the British Lionhearts. 

The next round of clashes begin on Thursday (March 12) when the Ukrainian outfit will be keen to make amends for that disappointing loss when they come up against the British Lionhearts in London.
