Kostner herself has lodged an appeal at the decision, which deemed she had assisted in the cover up of doping by her former boyfriend and Italian Olympic race walking champion Alex Schwazer.

The Italian had denied having anything to do with Schwazer's doping, but admitted that she had lied to drug testers when they arrived to test him in July 2012.

The former figure skating world champion is attempting to have her sentence annulled and see a declaration that she did not breach anti-doping rules.

But at the same time, a second appeal by the Italian National Olympic Committee's (CONI), anti-doping prosecution office is seeking an increase in Kostner's ban from 16 months to two years.

Initially anti-doping prosecutors had suggested that Kostner should be banned for a four-year period which would have seen her ruled out of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

They eventually settled for a 16 month suspension for competition, but have now made a bid to see her period of ineligibility increased.

Kostner's current ban sees her unable to compete at the 2016 European and World Championships, which are set to be held in Bratislava, Slovakia and Boston, US, respectively.

CAS, based at Lausanne in Switzerland, have confirmed that they have received both appeals and that two arbitration procedures are in progress.
