Burroughs, winner of freestyle gold at London 2012, and 96 kilogram champion Varner are the most stellar names in a strong American team that also includes Olympic bronze medallist Coleman Scott.

Also set to compete at their home World Cup is Tervel Dlagnev, who has finished on the podium at two World Championships, and Brent Metcalf comes into the competition on the back of an unbeaten performance at last year's event.

Completing the eight-strong roster is Tony Ramos, Nick Marable and Ed Ruth - seven of which represented America at the 2014 event.

In fact, all of the American side sit on top of their respective weight categories world rankings, meaning they look set to be fierce opposition for the rest of the field.

The United States team will be bidding to wrestle back the crown from Iran after they finished third last year, while the ever-present Russians took second at the 2014 Freestyle World Cup.

"It is an important event for us," National Freestyle Coach Bruce Burnett said.

"We have to get back into the top echelon of world wrestling.

"We have the top teams in the world here on our soil.

"This is an opportunity for us to perform better than we did at the World Championships.

"We have the best guys in our country from last year's World Team Trials on this team, and we will see how much we have improved since September 2014."

The World Cup is seen as one of the most importing events on the wrestling calendar, and Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Iran, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey as well as the United States are due to compete in Las Vegas in April.
