The competition, scheduled to take place from March 25 to April 6, will pit Africa's best club sides against each other.

The Championships, organised by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), are seen as one of the most lucrative on the continent and attracted 16 entrants last year.

Algerian-based G.S.Petroliers come into the tournament as defending champions after they clinched the 2014 title in Tunisia, and they were subsequently awarded a wild card for the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Volleyball Women's Club World Championship in Zurich.

Egypt has been plagued with sporting and political problems lately following the incident outside the Air Defense Stadium last week where 22 fans lost their lives following violent clashes with police ahead of the match between Zamalek SC and city rivals ENPPI.

The incident caused widespread fury due to the reported heavy-handed nature of the police, who apparently pelted the supporters with rubber pellets and used tear gas as fans were hemmed into a narrow caged pathway.

The deaths have led to increased scrutiny of the Egyptian police force and it also caused the Egyptian Premier League to be suspended, although the Egyptian Football Association have announced the league will resume on February 19.

Egypt's Premier League was also suspended for a similar reason back in 2012, when 74 fans were killed in a riot at a match in Port Said.
