Germany's victory in the men's doubles kept their title defence alive and sparked a miraculous comeback against France ©TwitterGermany bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Scotland in yesterday's Group 3 decider to beat seeded nation France in the quarter-finals of the 2015 European Mixed Team Badminton Championships in Leuven.

The defending champions came from 2-0 behind to win 3-2 and will now face top seeds and tournament favourites Denmark, 3-1 victors against Ireland, in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Germany got off to the worst possible start with Fabian Roth losing 21-16, 21-18 to Lucas Corvee in the men's singles, and Karin Schnaase going down 17-21, 21-18, 21-19 against Sashina Vignes Waran in the women's equivalent.

After Josche Zurwonne and Max Schwenger lost the first game of their men's doubles encounter against Ronan Labar and Baptiste Careme, there appeared to be no way back for Germany but 21-19 wins in the second and third cut the deficit in half and sprung them into life.

Johanna Goliszewski and Carla Nelte overcame Emilie Lefel and Delphine Lansac 21-11, 21-18 in the women's doubles to level the scores at 2-2, and the turnaround was complete when mixed-doubles pairing Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels beat Gaetan Mittelheisser and Audrey Fontaine 24-22, 21-17.

Denmark's passage to the last eight was slightly more straightforward, although Ireland put up a good fight and threatened to come back into the tie when Chloe Magee beat Line Kjaersfeldt in the women's singles.

Nonetheless, earlier wins for Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen in the mixed doubles, and Jan O Jorgensen in the men's singles, meant Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup Sorensen's men's doubles victory was enough to see the Danes progress into the last four.

Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, England claimed a 3-1 win against The Netherlands to set up a semi-final clash with Russia, who ended Scotland's Championship hopes by the same scoreline.

Husband and wife duo Chris and Gabrielle Adcock led the way for England beating Jacco Arends and Selena Piek in the mixed doubles, and this was followed up by a win for Rajiv Ouseph against Eric Pang in the men's singles.

Soraya De Visch Eijbergen pulled a point back for the Dutch with success in the women's singles against Fontaine Mica Chapman, but that was as good as it got as Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge beat Arends and Jelle Maas in the men's doubles to seal England's victory.

Russia's triumph against Scotland followed the same pattern, with men's doubles pairing Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov killing off the tie and thwarting a potential turnaround.

The winners of tomorrow's two semi-finals are due to meet in the final on Sunday (February 15).
