Taichung was awarded the right to host the 2019 East Asian Youth Games after a secret ballot ©OCATaiwanese city Taichung has been awarded the right to host the inaugural East Asian Youth Games in 2019.


Taichung, situated in the centre of Taiwan, beat the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar in a secret ballot held at the 32nd East Asian Games Association (EAGA) Council meeting in Beijing.

A total of eight member National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the EAGA voted.

Taichung proposed a Games theme, "Young and Green", showcasing its commitment to delivering a lively and low-carbon Games, and brought two medal-winning athletes from the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing to the bidding presentation.

The East Asian Youth Games were previously known as the East Asian Games, however, the EAGA agreed to the addition of "Youth" in the event title to adhere to the International Olympic Committee's emphasis on young athletes and their development.
