Egypt's Aladin Gabr has been re-elected President of World Archery Africa ©World ArcheryEgypt's Aladin Gabr has been unanimously re-elected as President of World Archery Africa after his only rival withdrew and pledged to support him.


Moroccan Adel Raja pulled out at the start of the Congress of the Federation of African Archery in Luxor City, leaving Gabr to be elected for a second term, which he claimed would be his last. 

Gabr is President of the Egyptian Archery Federation. 

Last year he had also been elected as the secretary general of the Egyptian Olympic Committee having led his coutry's team at several Games, including London 2012. 

Delegations from 13 of the 29 countries affiliated to continental governing body were present at the Congress, with another four represented by proxy, which were held alongside the African Championships. 

Among the motions passed were the addition of three World Archery Africa Council members, of which two should be women. 

Kenya's Tabassum Anwar and Morocco's Meriam El Mahiri were the successful candidates.

Other elections saw Namibia's Franck Bockmuhl chosen as first vice-president and vice-president South, 

Vice-presidents were also chosen for the other regions in Africa. 

Mauritius' Al-Yousouf Bayjou was elected to represent the East, Benin's Charlemagne Houssou the West and Algeria's Rabah Bouzin the North. 

The Council was completed by the addition of South Africa's Selwyn Miskovitz, Sudan's Ahmed Amiry and Tunisia's Samir Couchene. 

The Congress also appointed Morocco's Aziz el Mekki El Wazani as its Honorary President.
