22:23 The highlight elsewhere was the drama in boxing, where Indian boxer Sarita Devi refused to wear her Asian Games bronze medal during today's awarding ceremony following her criticism of the judging decisions. 22:15 Right, we are going to leave now to start the long(ish) journey back to the centre of Incheon. Some great performances tonight, including plenty of South Korean success, in hockey, wrestling and taekwondo. But a good night also for Kazakhstan, who scooped five titles, and for China, as ever, who enjoyed plenty of success.

We enjoyed the athletics action in here, despite the relative lack of atmosphere due to the small attendance, with the 800m initially providing the best race of the evening, and then adding the best drama after the first three across the line were disqualified (see 20:24 for more). 

But our personal highlight was the cricket, where Bangladesh well and truly walloped a spirited yet limited Kuwaiti side. 

Iraqi national anthem is played to end night of athletics

22:06 You've got to feel for the triple jump medallists here. Receiving their medals with barely a soul in the stadium. Disappointing to say the least...Although, saying that, there weren't too many more spectators here earlier.

Iraqi flagA treat a few minutes ago, however, when the Iraqi national anthem was played as Adnan Almntfage was awarded the 800m gold medal. It may have come in the most farcical of circumstances when the first three across the line were disqualified., but a great moment for a country locked in a brutal conflict. That follows a bronze medal for the same athlete over 1,500m, while they also won a weightlifting bronze medal. 

There could be more success to come tomorrow as well, in the football bronze medal match.

Female football gold for North Korea

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:58 A final result to bring you from the football now North Korea beat Japan in the women's final at the Munhak Stadium. We think it was 3-1, although our information system is telling us 2-0. But it was definitely 3-1!

It is a reverse from the scoreline four years ago, when Japan beat North Korea in the final, although the North Koreans did win the two editions before that. 

Kazakhstan take gold number five this evening

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:53 Nurmakhan Tinaliyev of Kazakhstan defeats Kim Yong-min of South Korea by the score of 5-0 to win the men's Greco-Roman 130kg category and take the final wrestling title of the Games. A great effort by the hosts to be represented in all four finals tonight, but this one sadly slips away...

That is Kazakhstan's fifth gold medal this evening after one in water polo and three in athletics.

Meng Qiang of China and Bashir Babajanzadeh Darzi of Iran picked up the two bronze medals. 

North Korean flag21:45 North Korea have taken a 3-1 lead against Japan in the women's football final. Captain Ra Unsim and substitute Ho Unbyol with the latest two goals for the leaders. Just a few minutes left in that one.

Ushiro wins final athletics event of the evening in decathlon

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:39 That means Keisuke Ushiro of Japan has won the men's decathlon, finishing with a total of 8,088 points after the 10 events. Leonid Andreev of Uzbekistan finishes 209 points behind in second place, and Akihiko Nakamura is rewarded, after his brilliant 1,500m effort, with bronze.

21:36 Nakamura crosses the line in 4:16.53 with a huge gap behind him. Ushiro cross fourth, 43 seconds ahead of Andreev, who struggles over in 5:26.72, in last place...

21:32 So, the decathlon is fascinatingly poised. Leonid Andreev of Uzbekistan has the most slender of 32 point leads over Keisuke Ushiro, the winner of the javelin event earlier this evening. Now, I don't want to pass judgement, but just by looking at him I feel Andreev is a man more suited to the speed and strength orientated events. To use an analogy usually used to describe a footballer who has returned for pre-season training after a summer of eating and drinking in Lanzarote , he is "carrying a bit of weight".

He moved towards the back as another Japanese entrant, Akihiko Nakamura of Japan, takes the lead. 

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:29 And the women's triple jump has been won by Olga Rypakova  of Kazakhstan, after she improved to 14.32 in the penultimate round. Aleksandra Kotlyarova of Uzbekistan finished second with a personal best of 14.05, while Irina Ektova, also of Kazakhstan, took bronze in a central Asian 1-2-3. 

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:24 China's Zhang Li has won gold in the javelin throw and set a new Games record with her distance of 65.47m. Li Lingwei, also from China, won silver, and India's Annu Rani, the bronze.

She goes eighth in the world with that throw. 

21:21 The final event of the evening is just beginning in athletics. It is the 1,500m of the decathlon. Before that, we have a couple of other events to update you on, in the field. A slight break in the blogging, incidentally, to eat a pot noodle my colleague has put in front of me. "It was very cheap," he comments apologetically. But it is actually very nice.

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:15 South Korea have been in the final of both wrestling finals so far this evening, collecting two golds. It's third time unlucky for the hosts, however, as Uzbekistan's 2013 Asian champion dominates reigning silver medallist Seyeol Lee in the final of the men's 85kg contest.

It takes just 2:22 for the Uzbek to wrap this up as he records eight points to win by superiority.

Iran claims another bronze each courtesy of Mojtaba Karimfar while China's Peng Fei secures the other.

21:08 And a result is now confirmed in the hockey. That single goal was enough, as South Korea defeat China 1-0, in the final to claim the gold medal! China have won the last three titles in this event, after South Korea won the four before that.

India, remember, beat Japan to bronze earlier. 

Rhythmic gymnastics title for Uzbekistan

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:05 Uzbekistan have won gold in the rhythmic gymnastics team event with a group score of 170.130. Led by Anastasiya Seryukova and Djamila Rakhmatova, who finished third and fourth in the individual all-around event, the 2010 silver medallists topped hosts South Korea and defending champions Kazakhstan.

It's a first silver medal for the host nation after bronze medals at Bangkok 1998 and Busan 2002. And part of their team is Son Yeon-jae, the 20-year-old who has just flown in from Izmir, Turkey, where she won a hoop bronze at the World Championships, which only finished on Sunday (September 28). 

Great commitment from her to get here, and as well she might, because she was voted the most anticipated athlete of Incheon 2014 ahead of the Games getting underway. The individual event will follow tomorrow. 

Incheon 2014 gold medal21:02 Another gold medal for Bahrain to report as Ali Khamis Abbas Ali Khamis wins the men's 400m hurdles. It was a very good race, with about five men in a line as they came off the bend, but he just had enough to hold off Takayuki Kishimoto of Japan and win in 49.71.

The man from Japan was one tenth of a second behind in second place, while Cheng Wen of China took bronze. 

20:59 Next up on the track is the penultimate event of the evening, the men's 400m hurdles final. But we will also be keeping you abreast of what is going on in hockey, football, wrestling and gymnastics.

Darae Kim is the player to score as she nets a field goal in the 41st minute to give the hosts the advantage. Not long left in this third period. Can China respond?

20:47 Speaking of Olympic champions in action tonight, and London 2012 triple jump winner Olga Rypakova still leads with her mark of 14.30. Aleksandra Kotlyarova of Uzbekistan is the closest challenger with 14.05, as the women's javelin final also gets underway.

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:43 Gold number two in the wrestling as South Korea's Hyeonwoo Kim seals the men's Greco-Roman 75kg title. The London 2012 Olympic champion takes four points with to no reply to beat Japan's Asian Championship silver medallist Takehiro Kanakubo.

Iran's Payam Bouyeri Payani and Kazakhstan's Doczhan Kartikov take the bronzes with wins in their respective bronze medal playoffs.

Adekoya wins second gold

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:36 Next up on the track, Bahrain's Oluwakemi Mujidat Adekoya has won the 400m hurdles in a time of 55.77 seconds. Satomi Kubokura of Japan took silver, and Xiao Xia of China the bronze. They won 56.21 and 56.59 respectively, so season's best times for each.

It's a second gold medal of the Games for Adekoya after her 400m victory. But she did look a little sluggish tonight, well outside her 54.59 clocking she managed earlier this year. You probably know this is coming, but the 21-year-old switched allegiance from Nigeria to represent Bahrain in early 2014.

In her first race for her new country, early this year, she set a national record, a personal best and clocked the fastest 400m hurdles time of the year at that time, with a 54.59 second victory

All three 800m medallists disqualified...meaning Iraq take gold

20:24 Some remarkable news from the athletics, as it is announced that all three medal winners from the men's 800m have been disqualified. I have never heard of that before! Mohammed Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia won ahead of Abdulrahman Musaeb Bala of Qatar and Abraham Kipchirchir Rotich of Bahrain, but all three are now out of the reckoning!
The latter two for lane violations, and Abdulaziz for obstruction.

Iraqi flagBut that means - although I'm sure there will be appeals - that as it stands, Iraq's Adnan Almntfage, China's Teng Haining, and Qatar's Jamal Hairane will take gold, silver and bronze respectively! 

So a gold medal for Iraq. But not in the way they would have liked. 

Incheon 2014 gold medal20:20 A final taekwondo result to bring you now. Jo Chol-ho of South Korea won the gold medal in the men's over-87kg category, by defeating Dmitriy Shokin of Uzbekistan 7-6 in the final. That is the third South Korean gold in the sport this evening, and they have also won titles in wrestling and handball!

 Elias El Hadari of Lebanon and Alisher Gulov of Tajikistan take the two bronze medals. Good to see Lebanon represented on the medals table again.

Ogunode wins sprint double after Championship record success over 200m

20:14 Say what you like about Ogunode, and there will certainly be many who don't think a Nigerian-born convicted doping cheat should be here, but he's certainly added something to the Games. The stadium, that has been very muted tonight, has suddenly come alive, with Qatari flags flying, and even a sighting of one of our Asian Games mascots down there on the track, all of whom has been virtually anonymous so far.

20:08 Qatar's Femi Ogunode wins the men's 200m in an Asian Games record time of 20:14, 0.13 seconds faster than the previous mark of 20.25.

Saudi Arabia's Fahhad Alsubaie won silver with a time of 20.74, while South Korea's Yeo Hosua took bronze with a time of 20.82.

19:59 Here is the 200m final, with Nigerian born Qatari, the man who returned from a doping ban to run 9.93 over 100m in winning gold in that event earlier this week, the clear favourite. Can anyone get close?

19:57 The men's 200m final is up next on the track. A few field updates to bring you first. Keisuke Ushiro of Japan threw the javelin 68.09 to move into second place in the decathlon competition with just the 1,500m to go. He is 32 points behind Leonid Andreev of Uzbekistan at the moment, so still all to play for. Two time defending champion Dmitry Karpov of Kazakhstan, Olympic bronze medallist back at Athens in 2004, is third. 

Kazakhstan flagThere will probably be more Kazakhstan success to come later as Olympic champion Olga Rypakova is unsurprisingly leading halfway through the triple jump competition, with a leap of 14.30m. She only returned to action in August after spending 18 months since London 2012 on maternity leave. 

Safranova wins 200m title for Kazakhstan

19:51 Haven't got many photos yet of tonight's action, so this photo finish will do so far. The 22-year-old Safronova upgrades the bronze she won over 100m. Her husband, Konstantin Safronov, is also competing in athletics at these Games, finishing eighth in the long jump final.

His place in the family pecking order has been confirmed after tonight's race.

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:48 Olga Safronova of Kazakhstan has won her country's second gold on the track this evening as she eases clear to win the 200m with a time of 23.02. China's Wei Yongli won the silver, and Chisato Fukushima of Japan, the bronze.

19:42 Next up on the track is the women's 200m final. We're speeding through the finals tonight so apologies for the lack of analysis and spurious comments from the insidethegames team, seated in the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium. You are probably quite sick of them now anyway. We have just been handed a carton of pineapple juice  - much appreciated - and a rather unappealing product labelled as a "cheesecake". Jury is still out on that one. 

But we are definitely liking the impromptu food that seems to occasionally appear at the venues.

South Korean gold in wrestling and handball

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:38 The other, unsurprisingly given the mid-game result we brought you earlier, has come in handball, where South Korea thrashed Japan 30-10 to seize the gold and recover it's title as Asia's leader in the female version of the sport.

After women's handball was introduced at Beijing 1990, South Korea won the first five editions before a shock semi-final defeat four years ago in Guangzhou. They took bronze on that occasion, as China beat Japan in the final. 

On this occasion, as we mentioned earlier, it was Kazakhstan who took bronze

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:31 A South Korean double to bring you up to date with. On the final day of wrestling finals, Ryu Han-su of South Korea has beaten Ryutaro Matsumoto of Japan by the score of 2-0 to win the gold medal in men's under 66kg Greco Roman division.

Bronze medals a few moments ago were claimed by Ri Hakwon of North Korea and Afshin Byabangard of Iran. In wrestling, the bronze medal winners to have to win a match to claim bronze rather than taking one simply by virtue of losing a semi-final, as is the case in boxing, fencing, badminton, table tennis, wushu and sepak takraw.

19:26 A glut of gold medals to bring you from elsewhere as we pause for medal ceremonies in the athletics. Iranian Mahdi Khodabakhshi has won the under 80kg gold medal in taekwondo after defeating Maksim Rafalovich of Uzbekistan 5-1 in the final. 

Farkhod Negmatov of Tajikistan and Qiao Sen of China take bronze, with taewkondo one of an endless stream of sports producing two bronze medal winners. 

Gold for Abdulaziz over men's 800 for second Saudi gold on the track

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:23 A wonderful finish to the men's 800m final, as Mohammed Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia wins on a photo finish from Abdulrahman Musaeb Bala of Qatar, by five hundredths of a second in 1:46.28!

Abraham Kipchirchir Rotich of Bahrain takes the bronze medal. 

19:18 Right, we're running a little behind with the taekwondo, so we will back there for an update in a moment, but first it is the men's 800m final. In the absence of defending champion Sajad Moradi of Iran, who was a non-starter in the heats, Qatar's Abdulrahman Musaeb Bala is probably the favourite, after clocking a continental leading time of 1:44.03 this season.

Also on the startline is Bahrain's Youssef Saad Kamel, world champion over 1,500m at Berlin 2009, and Saudi runner Mohammed Abdulaziz.

Mukasheva defends 800m title with strong finish

Incheon 2014 gold medal19:13 Gold goes to Margarita Mukasheva, the defending champion from Kazakhstan, in a thrilling finish. Lukka Tintu of India made the race, taking it out really hard, only to be overhauled in the final 30 metres or so.

Fast finishing Zhou Jing of China takes bronze, with all three medal winners breaking the two minute barrier. Mukasheva clocks an Asian Games record of 1:59.02, to add a defence of this title to the victory she secured at the Summer Universiade in Kazan last summer. 

19:09 Back in the athletics, and next up is the women's 800m final. Hard to call this one, with a few useful contenders...

19:06 Speaking of Japanese success, here is their women's softball team following victory over Taiwan in the semi-final earlier. It will take more than that to inspire the handballers however...who now trail 26-12 to South Korea.

Japanese flag19:00 Back in the athletics, and the women's triple jump final has begun. Then there is almost a diplomatic incident in the medals presentation for the 50km walk. Bronze medal winner Wang Zhendong of China is introduced as "winning bronze for Japan" before the announcer hastily corrects herself.

Japan do take gold however, courtesy of Takayuki Tanii in that most gruelling of events this morning. 

18:55 South Korea are heading to more success. They lead Japan 23-10 in the women's handball final early in the second half.

Incheon 2014 gold medal18:47 Another taekwondo result to bring you up to date with. Lee Ah-reum of South Korea has beaten Mayu Hamada of Japan 6-4 in the women's under 57kg final. A second gold of the evening in the sport for the host nation. Bronze medals go to Rangsiya Nisaisom of Thailand and Wang Yun of China. 

Wu wins first athletics gold of evening

18:41 Her time has been rounded down to 12.72 but that is a superb PB for the Chinese athlete. That puts her 11th in the world season lists.

18:38  China's Wu Shuijiao has won the women's 100m hurdles title to open the athletics programme on day 11. Wu won gold with a time of 12.71. Compatriot Sun Yawei took silver with a time of 13.05s and Japan's Ayako Kimura had to be content. bronze with a time of 13.25.

18:33 The two fastest qualifiers for this first event is China's Wu Shuijiao and South Korea's Jung Hye-lim. They are on the line now, in a stadium that is still, to be honest, fairly empty.

18:29 So, back in the athletics, the action is just about to begin this evening. The decathlon javelin throw is the first event getting underway in the field - we will bring you up to date with that in the moment - but on the track it will be the women's 100m hurdles. 

South Korea continue soft tennis domination

Incheon 2014 gold medal18:23 We're getting to the point in the day where a gold medal rush begins now, and South Korean duo Kim Beom-jun and Kim Ae-kyoung have defeated Zhou Mo and Chen Hui of China 5-1 in the soft tennis mixed doubles final. 

The pair attributed today's victory to each other. "I guess we had a faith in each other," Kim said. He also mentioned his wife and his new-born daughter to share the glory of gold medal.

Due to the East Asian quarter which prevents South Koreans meeting in the final, Kim Beom-jun and Kim Ae-kyoung had to beat their teammates Park Kyu-cheol and Kim Ji-yeon in the semifinals. Since South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan outplay other countries in soft tennis, the Games organisers made the rule to bind those countries in a same pool in the preliminary rounds.

Since there is no bronze medal match, both Park and Kim and the Indonesian duo Prima Simpatiaji and Maya Rosa Ariana Stefanie took a bronze medal.

First taekwondo title for South Korea!

Incheon 2014 gold medal18:15 A first gold medal in taekwondo to report, and it's a first of the Games for South Korea! Kim So-hui winning for the host nation in the national sport as she defeats Lin Wan Ting of Taiwan, 10-4, to take the gold medal in the women's under-46kg division. 

The two bronze medals went to Mary Anjelay Pelaez of the Philippines and for Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand.

18:09 The finals in all those sports also take place this evening, starting with South Korea against Japan in handball, which has just begun.

18:05 A couple of results from bronze medal matches to bring you now. After their water polo success early, there is more to cheer about for Kazakhstan as their women edge China 27-26 in a handball thriller. In hockey, India have beaten Japan to claim bronze. It is 0-0 between South Korea and Vietnam in the women's football third place playoff, meanwhile.

17:58 Athletics action starts in around 30 minutes time, with the women's 100m hurdles final. 

17:50 So, we have just wandered across from the Yeonhui Cricket Ground to the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium for a busy night of athletics action, with a total of 10 gold medals to be won, in addition to the one taken earlier in the 50km walk. To say the stadium is filling up is a bit of an understatement, its still 85 per cent empty. But there is a nice atmosphere bubbling outside, and it feels very different from the last time I was here, which was for the Opening Ceremony. 

And the weather really is beautiful here in South Korea. The temperature is a tremendously pleasant 23' Celsius, perfect for an early evening stadium to stadium stroll. 

Fifth Asian Games water polo title for Kazakh men 

Incheon 2014 gold medal17:35 And it's all over in the men's water polo final as Kazakhstan take their fifth title in six appearances. They led 6-3 going into the final quarter and had to fend off a brutal assault by Japan who pulled to within one. The Kazakh's managed to hold out. however, with the score ending 7-6 in their favour.

The FINA Men's World Cup took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan last month and the central Asian nation has consolidated its status as Asia's best team today. They have done pretty well in water-based sports here in Incheon, with domination in canoe sprint and a gold medal hatrick for teenager Dmitry Balandin in the pool. That all seems a long time ago now...

17:26 A result from the women's softball, where China have beaten the Philippines, 3-0. They will not go into a playoff for the final against Taiwan, with the winner of that match to face Japan in the final.

Incheon 2014 gold medal17:19 Chinese diver He Chao, who swept gold medals in the individual and synchronized 3m springboard event at the Fort Lauderdale, Gatineau, Rostock and Madrid legs of the 2013 Grand Prix, added another gold to China's collection, coming out on top in the men's 1m springboard event with a total score of 462.85

His teammate He Chong, defending Asian Games champion and Olympic gold medalist in the 3m springboard event was his closest rival, finishing with a total of 443.10 points. Woo Ha-ram of South Korea also finished on the podium, picking up his third medal at the Asian Games this year with a score of 410.00.

The diving continues tomorrow with the men's 3m springboard and women's 10m platform events.

Kazakhstan lead Japan in water polo final

Kazakhstan flag17:19 It's all go at the Dream Park Aquatics Center where Kazakhstan are beating Japan in the men's water polo final. The four-time champions are 6-3 to the good against Japan with just one period left to go in the encounter.

The defending champions took a 1-0 lead in the opening quarter before extending this to three come the end of the third. They are now just eight minutes away from their fifth gold medal in the event, their first coming on their debut in 1994.

17:12 We will come back to this Indian boxing controversy, which is the most interesting story currently doing the rounds today, but lots of sporting action to bring you up to date with as well.

Indian boxer refuses to wear bronze medal in lightweight victory ceremony

17:02 There is a huge amount of criticism of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in the Indian press about this. According to the Mumbai Mirror, India's deputy Chef de Mission Kuldip Vats was present at the venue when the whole fracas went down, but left without offering any assistance. As if that was not enough, IOA general secretary Rajiv Mehta allegedly stayed put on his VIP seat as Sarita Devi and her husband struggled to lodge an appeal outside.

According to the Indian Express, such was the situation that Sarita Devi had to borrow the appeal deposit of $500 (£308/€397) from coach Lenin Meitei and an Indian journalist.

This is very different from the approach of the Mongolian officials who also thought their boxer Tugstsogt Nyambayar was given a similarly unfair decision. They quickly made their protest without wasting any time.

16:51: Switching from the cricket back to the boxing and, following her controversial defeat in the women's lightweight semi-final yesterday, Sarita Devi of India has refused to wear her bronze medal in this afternoon's medal ceremony. (scroll down to 11:43 for more on this.)

The Indian was left in floods of tears when judges unanimously voted in favour of South Korea's Park Ji-Na in the bout despite Devi dominating the encounter.

She was in tears again today as she entered the venue to collect her bronze, although reports have now indicated that she left her bronze medal on the podium after refusing to take it from officials during the ceremony.

She has received a lot of praise right across Twitter for this "act of courage", with many blaming both the judges and the Indian Olympic Association for their lack of help and comfort following the loss. It is reported that Devi was forced to pay the $500 protest fee by herself, needing the help of Indian journalists to cover the costs.

Bangladesh beat Kuwait by 203 runs in the cricket

Spinner Sunny Arafat took four wickets for eight runs in two overs, as Kuwait proved utterly incapable of dealing with the Bangladeshi slow bowling. 

Final gold medal in women's boxing goes to North Korea 

Incheon 2014 gold medal16:24 North Korea's Jang Un-hui has sealed the final women's boxing gold medal as she defeats China's Li Qian in the middleweight division. Li was a furious opponent for the North Korean powerhouse but was not decisive enough with her punches.

Jang looked sharper and more accurate as she countered time after time. A warning for Li in the third round may have proved a game changer with a relatively even contest prior to this. The final result swayed 2-1 in favour of the North Korean in a great boxing display at the Seonhak Gymnasium.

Bronze medals will be awarded to Marina Volnova of Kazakhstan and Rani Pooja of India.

China edge South Korea to second boxing title

Incheon 2014 gold medal15:58 China take hold of the second boxing gold medal as Yin Junhua beats South Korea's Jina Park in the women's lightweight final.

Park had progressed to the final following a controversial judges decision which sparked outrage in the Indian camp and media.

The same wasn't to happen in today's final as judges handed the win to Yin on a 2-0 split decision. Yin was much the dominant fighter throughout the contest, throwing more powerful and accurate shots, and it was slightly odd that the judges decision was not unanimous. Nevertheless, Jin goes home with gold after a superb display in the final, very much deserved indeed.

Luu Thi Duyen of Vietnam and Laishram Sarita Devi, who was so distraught yesterday, take bronze. 

Bangladesh flag15:50 Back in the cricket, and Kuwait are chasing 225 to win after Bangladesh were restricted to 224-9. So they require 11.5 an over to win this one.

Well, after two overs, the good news is that they haven't lost any wickets. The bad news is that they haven't scored any runs either. There have been two maidens so far. 

Mary Kom takes Indian boxing gold

15:42 Mary Kom, a five-time world champion, is a fascinating figure, and was the subject of a feature film released in September 2014, with Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra playing the leading role. A biography about her life called 'Unbreakable' was also published in December 2013.

"I did not think my life was so interesting. I just hope the film inspires young people to take up sports. Not just boxing, but any sport," she has said.

The 31-year-old kept boxing a secret from her parents until she won the 2000 State Championship and her photo appeared in the local paper.

"I still remember I was castigated by my father who said that with a battered and bruised face, I should not expect to get married," Kom told WBAN in 2008. "He was furious that I took to boxing and he did not have the slightest idea about it. But my passion for the sport had got the better of me and I thank my cousins who coaxed and cajoled my father into eventually giving his nod. I'm happy that I did not let anybody down."

Incheon 2014 gold medal15:37 There's been much controversy in the Indian press (scroll down to 11:43) regarding the controversial decision's of boxing judges. They certainly won't be complaining about this one, however, as London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom wins the women's flyweight gold.

The five-time world champion, although neither at this weight, was on the receiving up of a 2-0 points decision by the judges in her bout with Kazakhstan's Zhaina Shekerbekova. 

The two losing semi-finallists from yesterday, Le Thi Bang of Vietnam and Nandintsetseg Myafmardulam of Mongolia, took the two bronze medals. 

Gold for Singapore in final sailing event

Incheon 2014 gold medal15:30 A sailing result to bring you as well. The host nation South Korean team was beaten by Singapore's match racing team, 0-2, in the J80 class. Skipper Maximilian Soh led his team to gold after two consecutive wins against skipper Park Gun-woo's team. The South Korean team had won bronze at Guangzhou 2010.

Bronze on this occasion goes to Japan. 

15:24 Boxing finals have started, so we will bring you an update in a moment...but as Bangladesh pass the 200 mark in the cricket, a worker has appeared with a box of persimmon. Now this is my culinary ignorance coming across again, but I was not familiar with what a persimmon was, and have to ask two journalists behind me for the name, although apparently the fruit is sold in European supermarkets.

It resembles a large tomato and has very sweet flesh, although quite a crunchy texture, I can report...It's one of the five a day anyway...Or five a week in our case, here...

Chinese gold in diving

Incheon 2014 gold medal15:16 First gold medal of the day to report now in diving, which means, essentially, a report on a Chinese victory. This time it is Shi Tingmao, who has already won the synchronized 3m springboard title, who adds another gold to her collection in the women's 1m springboard event today, finishing well clear of her rivals with a total score of 308.45.

Her teammate Wang Han, who won bronze in the same event at the Barcelona World Championships in 2013, took out the silver with a score of 287.40, while Kim Na-mi of South Korea won the bronze, her first Asian Games medal, with a total of 269.85 points.

Catches galore for Kuwait in the cricket

That's three superb catches on the boundary by Kuwaiti fielders and each one is celebrated wildly with plenty of running around, high-fiving and elaborate throwing of the ball in the air. "It was like they'd taken the bloody Ashes when they won the coin toss the other day," an official tells us...

Bangladesh are 183-5 in the 15th over and are still averaging over 12 runs an over, so they are heading for a mammoth total of well over 200. But Kuwait are loving this, with one boundary fielder geeing up the crowd like the conductor of an orchestra. For these players, this match is one to tell the Grandchildren about. Although, in the case of Kuwait's 58-year-old captain Mahmoud Bastaki, it may have to be the Great-Grandchildren.

Incidentally, Bastaki, who has engineered the Kuwaiti bowling effort today, is seven years older than his fellow countryman Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah, the President of the OCA who celebrated his 50th birthday last year. I wonder if Sheikh Ahmad could be persuaded to have a trial for the team...?

Thailand and Philippines take BMX cycling titles

Incheon 2014 gold medal14:57 A women's result to bring you over at the BMX Track in Gangwa as well. Amanda Carr of Thailand has won gold, beating Lu Yan and Peng Na of China.

Carr represented the United States at youth, junior and senior level, winning world titles at uncer 15 and under 16 age categories, but started competing for Thailand in 2013. She holds dual United States and Thailand citizenship as her mother is a native Thai. 

14:51 Not going so well for the Philippines in softball, where they are trailing China 3-0 in the semi-final, with the winner to meet Japan in the final.

Daniel Patrick Caluag continues where he left off in the seeding runs to take victory in the men's BMX cycling. The Filipino rider is first in all three of the runs as he accumulates just three points to secure gold.

Masahiro Sampei of Japan is second following two second place finishes and a third for seven points in total. In third is China's Zhu Yan with a total of 10 points across the three runs.

14:42 Away from the cricket and another bowler has impressed in the first block of the men's master's event at the Anyang Hogye Gymnasium.

Hong Kong bowling star Wu Siu Hong tops the leaderboard after the first block with a total 1764 across the six games.

Hussain Naisir Alsuwaidi of the United Arab Emirates is second, just 10 pinfalls behind, while China's Du Jianchao sits third on 1725.

14:32 Bangladesh's other opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal, is a bit of a star. Since making his international debut in 2007, he has scored four Test Match hundreds and a further three in limited overs cricket, including two against England in back to back matches in 2011, as well as further three figure scores against the likes of India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. In 2011 he was named as one of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack's four Cricketers of the Year, and Wisden's Test Player of the Year, becoming just the second Bangladesh player to be awarded the accolade.

Japan making up for baseball loss with softball success

14:23 And a good win for Japan over Taiwan, 6-1 in the semi-finals, to advance to the final of the softball competition. Taiwan will have to play the winner of the game between the third and fourth ranked teams tomorrow. Japan piled up the scores steadily from the start of the first inning.  Except for in the top of the fourth and the seventh, Japan scored in every inning.  Taiwan tried their best to catch up, but could only manage one run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The second semi-final, between China and the Philippines, is now underway.

14:19 A fairly quiet afternoon elsewhere at the moment, which gives us plenty of opportunity to focus on the cricket. The Philippines have just enjoyed a first rugby sevens win of Incheon 2014 with a resounding 59-0 victory against Pakistan. Pakistan has lost all three matches in the group stages.

Kuwaiti cricket captain is good at more than tossing a coin

Kuwait flag14:15 According to Kuwait Media News Publishing, Kuwaiti captain Mahmoud Bastaki is "a spirited and inspiring leader who has been instrumental in forming, mentoring and building up the first ever National squad of Kuwaiti players".

"The longest serving Kuwaiti player,he fell in love with cricket during his schooling days in India and continued playing cricket with the expat players upon his return back to Kuwait. A dashing all-rounder who can excel in all department of the game has been playing cricket in Kuwait since the last 30 years. The team has been undergoing vigorous training skills since four months and the team will be heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to play practice matches with local teams to get more exposure and gain experience while playing on different turfs."

He's obviously fairly good at tossing a coin as well.

We promise we will cover other sports as well this afternoon, but it has been a lifelong dream to live blog on a cricket match (I just never thought it would be Kuwait v Bangladesh in South Korea...). And Kuwait miss a sitter in the first over, a dropped catch at point and the south Asian side score six.

They are knocking the ball around for lots of singles, rather than going for big hits. Probably a wise approach given the slowness of the outfield... It is meaning plenty of scurrying around for Mohammad Alqallaf on the square boundaries. He's not quite as nimble as the Chinese and South Korean fielders we were talking about a couple of days ago, but he gets the job done, trapping the ball within an inch of the boundary with his feet before sliding over the rope. 

13:59 Kuwait's captain, who won the toss today as well as the crucial toss which won his team the entire match against Maldives, is 58-year-old Mahmoud Bastaki. His 23-year-old son Fahad is also in the team today.

13:44 Right, back at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground, which is within a well hit six of the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium in which athletics is taking place, and a huge cheer has gone up because Kuwait have won the toss and, in the words of the announcer, decided to "give Bangladesh a chance to twirl the bat". It gets a big cheer from the crowd, which is still rather small, in fact, who am I kidding, its virtually empty, but there's a few dozen vocal Bangladeshi's near the Media Tribune who are making up for it.

Opening Ceremony preferred K-pop to local legacy?

13:36 Kim Jae-in, Director of General Public Relations at Incheon 2014, has also been speaking more today on the controversy of selecting actor Lee Young-ae as the final Torchbearer at the Opening Ceremony, rather than an athlete.

"Our intensions were having South Korea's future sport hopefuls light up the torch, and actress Lee Young-ae was to be there simply for assistance," he said. 

"It is unfortunate that Ms. Lee has  stood out more than the young athletes.

"One of South Korea's strongest merits is 'Hallyu', and Ms. Lee is one of the most symbolic entertainers in the field. The producers had both agreed to our decisions."

China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Malaysia begin second day with wins

13:28 But a big result just coming through in the men's tournament. Hong Kong have enjoyed a strong 19-5 wins over China, meaning they are in first place in Group B.

13:10 More on the story we brought you a few days ago about Naoya Tomita, the Japanese swimmer who had been expelled from his country's team and booked by police after being caught on CCTV stealing a camera from a journalist.

Speaking this morning, Park Dal-hwa, Director of the Incheon 2014 Press Relations Bureau, has revealed that, "On Monday, Japanese swimmer Naoya Tomita was summarily indicted and fined 1,000,000 won (£540/$980/€745)".

"He has been asked to leave the athlete's village, but still staying in South Korea under JOC's surveillance," he added.

Anyone for cricket?
