Following on from her triumph in the C1 yesterday, Fox posted a time of 1min 54.01sec in the K1 final to finish 0.96 ahead of Great Britain's Fiona Pennie, with Germany's Melanie Pfeifer in third.

The 20-year-old, whose parents Richard and Miriam both won world titles in the United States a quarter-of-a-century ago, said: "To win the double, to win both my events, it couldn't have gone better.

"And to do it 25 years after my parents both won their World Championships in the US is really special.

"I think we'll all be cherishing that."

Earlier this year, Fox won both the C1 and K1 titles at the Under-23 World Championships in Penrith, Australia.

"It was a big build up this season, I made all the finals of the world cups but never managed to put it together in a final," said the Olympic silver medallist.

"To win is unbelievable.

"I knew if I went out there and had the speed I had this morning and fixed up a few of my mistakes I could challenge the lead and maybe even win a medal."

Meanwhile in the men's C2, Slovenia's Luka Božič and Sašo Taljat held off the challenges of French duo Hugo Biso and Pierre Picco and Slovakian cousins Ladislav and Peter Škantar to grab their nation's third individual gold and 17th medal at the Championships.

"Going into the Championships, my grandpa wished me to row myself the best present and this has happened," said Taljat, who was celebrating his 25th birthday.

France came out victorious in both the K1 women's team and C2 men's team events, with Austria and Slovakia completing the top three in the former and Slovakia and the Czech Republic taking silver and bronze in the latter.
