Organised by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee in association with the Brazilian Confederation of Sports for the Visually Impaired (CBDV), the open training camp saw athletes from Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Great Britain, United States, Mongolia, Puerto Rico, Russia, Sweden and Uruguay all take part.

The camp was led by CBDV President Sandro Laina and drew large interest as Rio 2016 draws closer.

"The training is part of preparing our selection for international events," Laina said.

"What we did was put it near an international championship that we are promoting in order to add technical value to visitors, especially athletes.

"There isn't a direct relation to the 2016 Games; but we know many athletes coming to this event use it to adapt to the customs, food and climate of the country."

The event is planned to continue next annually between March and May each year, and next year specifically will be used to train volunteers and officials for the Paralympic Games.
