December 20 - The 2014 Junior Pan American Weightlifting Championships will take place in Nevada ©Getty Images The Pan American Weightlifting Federation has awarded hosting rights for the 2014 Junior Pan American Weightlifting Championships to the United States.

The Championships are due to take place at the Silver Legacy Resort in Reno, Nevada from March 31 to April 6 and will feature some of the best under-20 athletes in the world.

USA Weightlifting will be the host federation for the event and its chief executive, Michael Massik has welcomed the awarding of hosting rights.

"We are delighted the Pan American Weightlifting Federation has given the United States the opportunity to host this prestigious competition," said Massik.

"We look forward to welcoming our Pan American friends for a great competition in a great city."

USA Weightlifting has also announced that it will hold an Open Championship to run alongside the Junior Pan American Weightlifting Championships and revealed that it will stage a Junior International Camp at the Olympic Training Centre in Colorado Springs, in the lead-up to the events.

The Federation will also host the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships in Houston, Texas.

"We would like to thank the USA Weightlifting Federation for the development of our sport by hosting the Junior Pan American Championships and the World Championships in 2015," said Pan American Weightlifting Federation President Willin Ozuna.

"I want to encourage all to continue working to raise the voice that our sport is [the] only one in [the] Americas."

American athletes between 15 and 20-years-old can begin the process of qualification for the Junior Pan American Weightlifting Championships at the 2013 American Open in Dallas from December 5 to 8 and the 2014 National Junior Championships in Aurora, Colorado from January 31 to February 2.
