Both countries have already won multiple medals in the individual disciplines and - to underline these respective strengths in depth - Ukraine triumphed in the men's sabre team competition while Hong Kong did likewise in the women's foil.

The team events combined fighters from different individual categories: encompassing athletes with minimal disabilities in category-A, those with more severe lower limb dysfunctions in category-B and those for athletes with high level disabilities and limited hand function in category-C.

The crowds were enjoying the wheelchair team action in Budapest 


The women's foil competition was always likely to come down to the two countries who shared the individual titles in China and Hong Kong but it was the latter, spearheaded by category-A winner Yu Chui Yee, who emerged on top in a gripping contest by 45 points to 41.

In a seven team event the host nation Hungary defeated Russia 45-32 to take bronze.

Hong Kong reached their second final of the day in the men's sabre but this time had to be satisfied with second place after losing 45-35 to a Ukranian team which included individual bronze medalist Andrei Demchuk, while France got the better of Poland in the battle for bronze.

The results ensured that this was the first day of the championships with no gold medals for China, yet the tournament's leading nation will have plenty more chances in the epee and men's foil team events over the next two days.
