Oscar Pistorius in court February 2013February 24 - A special documentary on Oscar Pistorius and the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, has already been commissioned by the BBC.

BBC Three has tasked Mentorn Media with producing the hour-long fast-turnaround special.

It will be presented by Rick Edwards, who hosted the Paralympics for Britain's Channel 4 last year.

Mentorn also made BBC Three's recent fast turnaround special, Superstorm Sandy: Caught on Camera, and were also in South Africa to make Dispatches: Murder on Honeymoon, on the case of Anni Dewani, a Swede whose British businessman husband allegedly arranged for her murder in Cape Town shortly after they were married.

"BBC Three is never afraid to tackle current affairs and we are committed to showing bold, thought-provoking programmes for 16-34s," said Zai Bennett, the controller of BBC Three.

"Mentorn will be producing this programme at incredible speed, and together with presenter Rick Edwards, I'm sure they will deliver a documentary that will bring a new angle to this ever developing news story."

His trial on pre-meditated murder is expected to start later this year.

"The story of Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp has captured everyone's attention," said Steve Anderson, who will be executive producer for the programme.

"It is hugely important and Mentorn has the expertise to deliver it quickly to BBC Three."
