Nigeria won six gold medals at London 2012, all in powerlifting an improvement of two on Beijing 2008.

In total, the country won 13 medals, one in athletics and the rest in powerlifting.

Emoghavwe is one of Nigeria's greatest Paralympians himself, having won three successive powerlifting gold medals between 1992 and 2000.

"Disabled sport has never had it so good," he told the country's news agency, NAN, adding that the cash rewards on offer from the Government to its athletes was a critical factor in their success this summer and going forward.

Emoghavwe says that Nigeria should do better than in London when it competes in Brazil in 2016 because of the improved conditions.

"To whom much is given, much is expected," he explained.

"It was only in the 2000 Commonwealth Games in Manchester that we were selected to be given winning bonuses and currently, the Minister has extended it.

"There were loads of challenges in terms of finance and technical input, but I just thank God that our travelling to South Korea for a training tour boosted our performance.

"You get a better result when you move an athlete out of his country to where he will focus very well and we were able to manage the challenges with the help of the Minister who deemed it fit to send us on a training tour."

Nigeria made its Paralympic Games debut in 1992 in Barcelona.
