On the penultimate day of sporting action ahead of tomorrow's Closing Ceremony, Kazakhstan emerged triumphant on the final day of water polo action taking place in the sea a few metres from the beach on Karon Bay.

The central Asian nation overcame Indonesia 20-3 in the final match to take gold, while Iran took silver after an 18-12 win over Thailand.

To the delight of Olympic Council of Asia director general Husain Al-Musallam, an International Swimming Federation vice-president and who was presenting the medals, a 12-5 victory over Hong Kong proved enough for Kuwait to secure bronze.

But elsewhere, it was Thailand, Thailand and Thailand as the host nation cruised over the fiftieth gold medal mark, and then a lot further.

All three beach athletics titles today were won by the host nation in red, white and blue, as Thitima Muangjan claimed the long jump title before Thai victories in both the male and female 4x60 metre shuttle relays.

But the dominance really started when action got underway in muay thai, to a vocal reception from the home fans despite the heavy rain which fell for much of the evening.

They won the first five titles on the programme in the Thai national sport, with one coming by knockout, before Vietnam halted the stampede by gaining the first of two victories.

There was also one for Uzbekistan.

Elsewhere, there were four victories today in wakeboarding for South Korea, as the nation moved up into third place on the medals table, while Japan and Malaysia won one apiece.
