The public are now able to vote for the Best Sportsman of 2014 at the Black Iris awards ©JOCThe first of three Black Iris awards have opened for public vote as fans are given the opportunity to vote on who they think Jordan's best sportsman has been over the past year.

The public will be able to vote via the Jordan Olympic Committee Facebook page, as well as the governing body's official website.

Karate star Abdel Rahman Al Masatfeh, boxer Odai Al Hindawi and muay thai fighter Mohammad Salameh will all be gunning to win the prestigious award, which recognises the top athletes in Jordanian sport.

Al Masatfeh has been put forward following his silver medal performance at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon where he made it to the final of the men's kumite under 60 kilogram final against Iran's Amir Mehdizadeh.

Al Hindawi also took silver at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games, beating Wilfredo Lopez of the Philippines in the semi-final of the men's 75kg contest before losing to Kazakhstan's world champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly in the gold medal final.

Salameh, on the other hand, claimed muay thai gold at the Arab Championships, before securing bronze at the Asian Beach Games.

The winner of all Black Iris awards will be revealed at a gala dinner in February.

The Best Sportswoman and the Best Young Sports Achiever - Female awards have already been selected by a panel of media judges, after it was decided that they should be named unchallenged.

This meant that Rana Qubbaj's achievement in winning gold in the World Jujitsu Masters and youngster Eman Al Adayleh qualifying through to the Youth Olympics were deemed unsurpassable achievements for the "Best Sportswoman" and "Best Young Sports Achiever - Female", respectively.

The other two awards set for the public vote are the "Best Young Achiever - Male" and Best Paralympic Athlete.
