Athletics basketball cycling and handball were among award winners ©BOCAthletics, basketball, cycling and handball were among 14 national sports associations awarded by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) for their achievements in 2014.


The awards ceremony took place at the organisation's headquarters in Seef, which saw representatives of the associations collect awards from the BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar.

Among the associations collecting awards from the BOC were billiards and snooker, bowling, fencing, golf, and gymnastics.

The list of winners was completed by maritime sports, swimming, weightlifting and bodybuilding, volleyball and sports for the disabled.

The ceremony was attended by sports affairs executive director Jehad Khalfan and several BOC directors, in addition to Askar.

Askar congratulated the sports associations on their achievements in 2014, noting "remarkable results" achieved on regional, Arab and continental levels.

"The Olympic Committee has allocated 75 per cent of its annual budget to support the sports associations, and that it is always keen to abide by the incentives regulation, which the committee believe would boost the morale of the athletes to achieve the best results," Askar stated.

Askar also passed on the best wishes of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC President Shaikh Nasser bin Hama Al Khalifa and Supreme Council vice-chairman Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, to the respective sports associations.
