The design, which has still to be revealed publicly, was selected following a two-year hunt and has been approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). 

Since the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism' s Sport Administration began the process in April 2012, a total of 198 entries have been submitted from different parts of the South East Asia nation, including 155 logo proposals and 43 mascot designs.

According to VietnamNet, the winning logo, created by Nguyen Phuoc Duc from southern Ho Chi Minh City, shows a letter "V" alongside stylised sea waves and a red sun running above the words "5th Asian Beach Games, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam 2016". 

The mascot, designed by Nguyen Can Truong from capital city Hanoi features a swallow, a bird commonly seen in Nha Trang.

This comes at an important time for Vietnam in their preparation for the biennial event after capital city Hanoi withdrew from hosting the 2019 Asian Games earlier this year, citing "economic pressures".

Indonesian capital Jakarta has since been chosen as a stand-in host, but the Vietnamese authorities have repeatedly reassured the OCA that they have no plans to withdraw from hosting the Asian Beach Games.
