General coordinator Khawla Al Muhairi is leading the visiting delegation ©BOCA delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) promoting an award for outstanding female athletes has arrived in Bahrain to spread the word about the prize.

Organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), a team representing the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Woman Athletes' will spend three days in the country.

They are due to meet with sports clubs and associations, universities and Government and private schools, as well as visit officials, Bahraini athletes, coaches, administrators and members of the media.

The award is named in honour of Sheikha Fatima - often referred to as the mother of sheikhs and the mother of the UAE.

The visiting delegation is headed by general coordinator Khawla Al Muhairi, and includes media personnel Nada Al Shaibani and Maryam Al Rifai.

BOC board member and chairwoman of the Women's Sports Committee, Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, welcomed the visiting delegation today and stressed the importance of this award for its role in "motivating all pillars of [the] women's sports system".

A special committee has been formed by the BOC tasked with establishing a "special programme" to promote the award, headed by media and public relations director Mohammed Lori.

The award is divided into a number of parts and aims to "motivate women to further develop [their] abilities and skills in the different fields of sports, in an attempt to accomplish various achievements".

It also aims to boost the take-up of sport by disabled women.
