The first session of the Olympic Academy For Journalists has been held in San Salvador de Juju in Argentina ©COAThe Argentina Olympic Academy (AOA) has successfully held its first session of the Olympic Academy For Journalists.

It is part of the organisation's plans to deepen the study of the philosophy of Olympism, spread its intrinsic values and contribute to the training of new leaders in the sport and the Olympic Movement within Argentina, it is claimed.

The Academy, a Committee inside the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA), ran this first session in San Salvador de Jujuy.

The Opening Ceremony was attended by Mario Moccia , secretary general of the COA and President of the AOA, José Luis Marco, permanent member of the COA, Silvia Dalotto de Marco , director of the COA's Olympic education programme, and Carlos Ferrea, general manager of the organisation.

Antonio Bachmann, President of the Association of Participants AOA, Adriana Magdaleno, Minister of Social Development of Jujuy and Stephen Gilardi, Sport Secretary for the Juju Pprovince were also present at the Opening Ceremony.

The first session of the Olympic Academy for Journalists arose, it is claimed, from the need to bring the basics of Olympism to the media and to enhance dialogue and relationships between sporting organisations and the press, with 30 participants in attendance.

Moccia said the purpose of this initiative is to "provide [reporters] tools and try to make an interest in the Olympic Movement to spread.

"It is a philosophy of life that goes beyond the sporting event.

"It has to do with the values and the Olympic Movement, whose central axis is forming young people to be better people."

He added: "We wanted to start with this experience to meet with a specific audience, such as sports journalism, and make a return to the Olympic ideals that make our life philosophy.

"We have an open management, since 2009, because we are of the view that as a non-profit civil institution we have to interact with all sectors of society, establishing a federal policy to reach all corners of Argentina.

"We started in Jujuy and are then hoping to advance through to the other provinces."

During the session, Moccia gave three lectures on the "Structure of the Olympic Movement", the "Olympic Mission" and the "Olympic Youth Games 2018 Buenos Aires".

There were also lectures on "History, Philosophy and Olympic Symbols", "The media and the Olympic Games" and "Olympic Education Programme COA" by professor Silvia Dalotto de Marcó, while Dr José Luis Marcó addressed the "Winter Olympics" and the "choice process for sports venues".
