The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee is calling on local designers to create the march out and ceremony uniforms for the country's athletes ©FASANOCFiji designers are being given the opportunity to enter a competition to create the march out and ceremony uniforms that will be worn by the nation's athletes at major events for the next four years, including the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Working with Fiji Fashion Week, the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) is hoping to find the perfect uniform design for the squads going to next year's Pacific Games in Port Moresby and Rio 2016.

Other events the uniform will be worn at includes the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in St Lucia, the 2017 Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics Games in Buenos Aires.

The nation's athletes have stepped out in their current uniforms since 2003.

"We encourage those interested in participating [in the design contest] to do so and they'll see their design for a long time," said former Olympic swimmer and FASANOC Athletes' Commission chairman Carl Probert.

As well as having their uniform design showcased to the world, the winning entrant will receive an all expenses paid three-day trip to the Opening Ceremony of the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea's capital.

FASANOC said the designs should make the small nation stand out on the world stage and they "should capture Fiji's popular identity and its bright and friendly culture".

They should also feature navy and sky blue to give a nod to the nation's flag.

Designers can enter their work by Friday January 9, 2015, by post to Fiji Olympic House, 17 Bau Street, Suva.

Design concepts only should also be emailed to [email protected].
