German House during Rio 2016 will be located at the Blue Barra Beach Point ©DOSBGerman House will be located at the "Blue Barra Beach Point" during next year's Olympics and Paralympics here, it has been revealed.

Details of the location were announced by Alfons Hörmann, President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

"We have found a place with a lot of Brazilian flair," he said.

"I am convinced that our athletes and our guests here feel very comfortable and will be true to the motto of the Olympic team, 'We are for Deutschland', while they are invited to while away hours together."

The House will be located on the edge of Barra da Tijuca in the middle of a nature reserve Parque Natural Municipal de Marapendi, bordering a lagoon, Lagoa de Marapendi.

Barra is planned to be the heart of Rio 2016.

Located in the west of the city, it is surrounded by lagoons and mountains, and boasts one of the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro.

The zone will be home to Barra Olympic Park, the largest concentration of Games venues, plus the Riocentro exhibition centre that has four pavilions and the new Olympic golf course.

In all, the 14 competition venues in Barra will stage 21 Olympic sport disciplines and 12 Paralympic sport disciplines.

The zone will also be home to the Olympic and Paralympic Village, Athletes' Park and International Broadcasting Centre and Main Press Centre.

German House is due to open on August 4, 2016, the eve of the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

It will close following the day before Closing Ceremony on August 20 but re-open for the start of the Paralympics on September 8.

"This location exudes a charm - it offers everything what is commonly connects with Rio: lightness, inspiration, openness and vitality," said Michael Vesper, chief executive of the DOSB.

"For our team, the house is sure to be a favorite place of communication and interaction."

During London 2012 German House was located at The Museum of London Docklands.

German House could become an even more significant location for the country's top politicians and administrators during Rio 2016 if, as expected, they launch a bid for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

The DOSB are due to choose between either the capital Berlin or Hamburg at a meeting on March 21.

The House will include hospitality areas and a separate area to hold press events.

"The Blue Barra Beach Point from the beginning was our favourite location," said Axel Achten, chief executive of Deutsche Sport Marketing, organisers of German House.

"You could say it was love at first sight.

"The location made it ideal starting point."
