Schreiber was elected in Berlin yesterday at the DOSB General Assembly and succeeds former Olympic speed skater Christian Breuer, who has served on the Athletes' Commission since 2007.

Breuer, who is a chief inspector with the German Federal Police, thanked the DOSB for its support during his time in the role and wished his successor good luck.

"Volunteering has given me much energy and at the same time a lot," said the 37-year-old.

"We have achieved much in this exciting time and also not a lot of progress.

"This is normal.

"The new Commission will continue.

Schreiber, 34, competed at two Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and Beijing 2008.

He won World Championship gold in Lucerne in 2001 partnering Andre Willms, Marco Geisler and Andreas Hajek to the title in the men's quadruple skulls, which was followed by bronze at the 2005 World Championships in Gifu Nagaragawa, Japan.

Schreiber will be joined on the Commission by former canoeist Silke Kassner who will act as vice-chairman, while fencer Maximilian Hartung, figure skater Daniel Hermann, speed skater Felix Rijhnen and archer Catherine Winter have also been elected to the Commission.

"We have a really good mix of Olympic and non-Olympic sports, from women and men, rookies and experienced athletes to world champions at the start.

"I am confident that we can make a difference for our athletes and athletes as a team."

The new Athletes' Commission will be officially ratified at the next meeting of the DOSB General Assembly in Dresden on December 6.
