The Spanish Olympic Committee is set to hold a series of lectures on regenerative therapies in sport ©COEA series of lectures on the use of regenerative therapies in sport is being launched by the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) at the end of the month.

The lectures are being run through the COE's Medical Commission chaired by Santiago Deo.

The first lecture is scheduled to take place at COE headquarters in Madrid on September 29 at 5.30pm Central European Summer Time (CEST).

Head of Biotechnology and Advanced Therapies at the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products, Sol Ruiz will lead a discussion on the Spanish regulation on the application of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in sports injuries at the first lecture.

PRP involves taking a patient's own blood and concentrating the levels of platelets and growth factors to promote healing in injured musculoskeletal tissue.

The practice, used by the likes of Spanish tennis player and 14-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal in the past, had been the subject of controversy but was removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list in 2011.

In addition to a discussion of PRP, director of the Clinical Cemtro, Pedro Guillén will make a  resentation on "Clinical Applications of crops l joint pathology."

Attendance at the first lecture is free of charge and the registration period is now open until September 20.
