The second stop on the German Sports Badge Tour will visit the city of Giessen ©DOSBThe German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) is calling on participants in the state of Hesse to take part in the second stop of its annual Sports Badge Tour which is due to visit Giessen on June 27.

Now in its 11th year, the tour encourages people to get active and take part in physical activity and sports to improve their physical fitness and earn the German Sports Badge for their efforts.

After visiting Mühlhausen on Monday (June 16), Giessen is next up and the DOSB is expecting around 1,000 participants to sign up for a day of activity for school children and families.

The Bezirkssportanlage West Stadium will be the venue which will see activities for schoolchildren begin at 8.45am local time before registration for family activities takes place at 11.00am in Sports Hall A at the nearby Herderschule.

At 1.00pm, the family activities will get underway which will see two members from different generations of the same family compete in at least two disciplines to be in with a chance of winning a €100 (£80/$136) shopping voucher.

A number of German sporting stars including Atlanta 1996 silver medal winning decathlete Frank Busemann and World Championship bronze medallist pole vaulter Danny Ecker will join stunt woman Miriam Höller on the day to encourage participants and take part in activities themselves as part of the DOSB's Sportabzeichen team.

The German Sports Badge initiative is supported by partners German Savings Bank Group, Ernstings Family and Bionade.

Following Giessen, the Sport Tour moves onto Kiel on July 2, Losheim on July 4, Wittenberg on July 11, Freital on July 15 and Regensburg on July 25.

In August the tour stops off in Langeoog and Norderney on the 8 followed by Falkirk on September 5 and Duisburg on the 13.
